I'm not very learned on the matter, but there's a good explanation for it.

Attraction to large breasts is an evolutionary trait, since healthier breasts are essential to raising children and all that. Attraction, at its base level, is the primal urge to mate with someone that would result in the best possible offspring - i.e. those who would have a better chance of surviving or procreating.

It has since evolved into a sex symbol in modern media due to it being a clearer representation of the female body. My guess is that the only other obvious physical difference would be too lewd to flaunt in public.

Edit: I completely missed OP's theory on why some women like abs. While it is generally correct - Your wording leads me to believe you're looking at it naively, and this theory is lent credence by your inability to understand the allure of larger chests.

Basic instinct tells us that if a male looks physically strong, then they will be able to protect us and provide food VIA hunting for us. They make suitable "guardians", if you will.

There is very little to no common-era or conscious thought attributed to these particular preferences. It is a genetic filtering system evolved over the years to help ensure successful progeny. It is not a romantic gesture, or a pseudo-intellectual screening process to determine who is actively looking after their health.

Those things come after the fact. Which is why, even though the environment has changed to where "guardian" and "protector" are best classified as "successful", we don't look at a wimpy looking billionaire and instantly go "I'd ride that."

The switch to that takes conscious thought. Much the same way even though smaller breasts work just as well as larger ones, men won't look at a flat chested girl and instinctually go "her mammaries function with astounding efficiency."

Following this train of thought just for extra knowledge - Fetishes are also beyond genetic thought. Which is why some men prefer flat chests, and some women prefer fatter partners. We have at this point reached an apex where as a race we are capable of subduing our initial instinctual reaction and then augmenting it with our own preferences.

Just to get in on the conversation, I could care less about the size. I've liked women with huge breasts, and I've liked women with small breasts. I like a women right now who isn't large at all. It doesn't matter to me.

Since we're on the topic of personal opinion now, I'll say that I, personally, do not feel that really large breasts or really small ones are attractive. C/D is good. (I'm not lesbian, but I do acknowledge the attractiveness and unattractiveness of my own gender.)

I think that smaller breasts are very unfeminine and immature, and the women who have them seem to be either very insecure or very pompous. I don't really like that, to be honest. It's fine if you're not particularly attractive in your own opinion, but I don't like it when people hide things that aren't attractive.

I have acne. Nobody may find it attractive, but I'm not going to paint my face and neck with concealer and pretend I don't have it. So, if a girl with small breasts wears pads to hide the fact that their chest is flat and leads guys on to think their chests are large, it seems equally wrong to me. However, I still disagree with you in that regard. It's not simply children who retain stupidly high standards with no real basis, and many kids don't have them. Saying they don't have the right to high standards because they aren't old enough or experienced enough to set them is both silly and counter productive to gaining the experience you say they need to have.

It's a catch 22 - If you don't fumble your way through adolescence, learning from the people around you and experimenting with your own life, then you will never gain the experience needed to become an adult who is classified as such because they have said experience. If children have no right to aspire beyond their current status or act precocious, then how do we expect them to adjust when it comes time for being an adult?

The experience needs to be gained at some point, it will not just be handed to them with their diploma and suddenly create a functioning member of society.

OKay let's clarify... Breasts are a part of the female body that are made up of fatty tissue. Breasts also are the location where milk for children (when breast feeding comes to mind) is used to nourish infants (though some may not take breast milk). However, they have since become a symbol for sex.

Breasts are also included in the largest and most well known fetish of breasts in general. Being a male, I often notice a girl's breasts and body shape. If a girl, in my eyes, lacks size in her breasts, its probably because of diet (they are thin), DNA, or are "late bloomers".

Breasts usually start to really form once puberty starts up in a female, of which the hormone estrogen flows through the body. Fat starts to build up in the chest are under the skin, and breasts slowly but surely form.

However, this is true for men (at least for me that is): large breasts means more sexual attraction. However, brast size can be bothersome, especially in today's world. Girls with small breasts may feel left out and unattractive, while ones with larger ones feel more "grown up" and "mature".

There is another fact at hand: weight. The weight of breast can be good and also bad. Breast from cup size D and up are heavy (i'm sure all you female Dollars with large breasts will agree!), and the larger they are, the heavier. Large breasts can cause back pain because of the strain the lower regions of the back are under in order to hold up that kind of weight. (if i'm wrong, correct me)

Personally, nothing over D cups. I don't want my girl to be struggling with some tasks., because i'm pretty sure they DO get in the way.

Okay, anatomy lesson so that I can bitch without derailing this thread. Boobs are not fat, nor are they a sign of obesity. I don't know about you, but I've seen plenty of girls with naturally large breasts that aren't the least bit chubby. Guys also like boobs because it's engraved in them. It's a part of natural selection. It's engraved in the guy's mind, subconsciously, that boobs means that the woman will be more fertile and more able to take care of children. I read somewhere that it has to do with psychology. As babies we are naturally prone to want the milk from the breasts of our mother, and it is among the first things we come into contact when we are held by our mothers. We saw it as a sign of acceptance and love. This feeling obviously evolved over time into which those feelings were projected onto sexual maturity. It's only a thought, the theory may be too Freudian for modern psychology. Sorry if someone has already said this, just noticed the conversation has been going on for quite some time...

Well, from a scientist's point of view, which I am not, it's because boobs represent a good mother. A man will be attracted to boobs because it means they will produce a healthy child and be able to take care of it. Also El_Taco makes a good point. Same thing with abs, a woman will want a healthy male to produce a good child. This theory might not be true though.

Going off of what Taco said, I wonder if anyone has done a study attempting to correlate boob preferance to breast-feeding as a child. Because I don't think I was ever breast-fed, and similarly I don't have a particular fondness for boobs. That might just be a coincidence, but I do wonder what the statistics on that are. Or if the subject is even objective enough to have statistics?

I did some research. I couldn't find anything that attempted to correlate boob preference to breast feeding, but I did find boob preference to overall sexual attractiveness. All of the studies I read participated under the assumption that sexual attractiveness was attributed to the desire to procreate. Like Yuki said earlier.

The first article pretty much sums up Yuki's hypothesis, sexual attractiveness guarantees healthy child bearing, and the article thus elaborates in the specific attributes that contribute to sexual attractiveness in both males and females, including breast size.

The second article attempts to devise a mathematical model to describe the evolution of male perception to female attractiveness. The mathematical model is impressive, and even manages to predict a sort of theoretical success rate of males courting females based on localized preferences (basically fetishes) and predicts causation of sex role reversal in practice. All in all, the mathematical model manages to incorporate many different sides of the issue and accurately give results that coincide with previous studies, even the first study I mentioned. It basically proves the question about why males view breasts, among a plethora of other things, with math. It's ridiculously cool! I can't say I understand most of the math, but still, who knew such a thing existed!

A guy's fondness of boobs really depends on the guy and what they're attracted to. Some guys like blonds, while others like brunets. I for one like it when a woman's body has harmony or rather that her body works together to make her even more attractive. But in the end most guys will just say that boobs are fucking awesome just cuz.

So, boobs. Pretty awesome things in my opinion. I personally think that B-D range is the most attractive. It's not just the appearance, but the way it feels in the hand. More than a D is unpleasant, and less than a B is disappointing for me. Though if I had to pick a single ideal size, it'd be C.

That's not to say that women outside my ideal range can't be beautiful, it can and has been done. Just not often, for my tastes.

One thing that's always bugged me is the nipple piercing. Always hated them on anyone, they just look ugly to me.

While breasts aren't the most important thing, they are important to me in a partner. I would not want to wake up one morning with a pair of G's suffocating me.

Ok that is yet another person who believes that misconception. Fat wasn't considered beautfiul ok! It was considered appealing because it showed wealth which was rare in those times. Genererally the old art of plump women you see is portraits which would be because they come from a wealthy family and can afford to eat well and hire a painter. Skinny (But not to skinny) women have always been considered generally more acceptable to the human eye because we see them as fit, healthy and more compatible to mate with. Although we have shifted and frankensteined beauty it is still essentially the same thing it was 400 years ago.

I think it's hard to explain why guys like boobs, in the same way that it's hard to explain why some people like mushrooms and some don't. It's really just personal preference. I personally prefer smaller boobs. If they hang, then that's a slight turn off for me. I like it when they're perky and stick out of the chest.

Boobs aren't fat. They're an organ. Why do bigger people have bigger boobs? Because like any other part of the body, they can accumulate fat when you gain weight. Just like your stomach, ass, legs, arms, back, and face. In fact, it would be weird if boobs were the only part that didn't get fat.

Okay, back to the organ part and why people like boobs. They are an organ triggered by a hormone to produce milk when a woman is pregnant, though any breast (male or female) can lactate with enough stimulation.

So, men like bigger boobs because they subconsciously think, "Bigger boob = more milk = more food for my offspring = bigger and stronger children = more likely to survive and carry on my DNA." Now every time someone brings up subconscious thoughts, some smartass has to say, "I don't think that!" So, to that smartass, it's subconscious. Of course you don't think that in your logical mind because that doesn't make sense. All boobs create the same amount of milk. The subconscious is not the thoughts that you are logically aware of, hence the name.
