Why is it that non-English speakers go into English chats, and vice versa? I mean really, if you can't speak the language of the majority of the room, you're going to cause a lot of miscommunication or general disruption. And it's just just related to the affiliated chats here; I've had it happen on other sites as well.
Am I the only one who has a problem with this? Am I the only one who wouldn't waste my time fighting to be understood in a room that is completely different as far as language goes? What are your guys' thoughts?
It always happens on IMVU. You know, you're in the middle of an awesome, chat-based, English roleplay, putting your character through the zombie apocalypse or some shit, and the next thing you know, the chat has been flooded with Spanish shit. When you ask them to leave, they call you a racist puta and invite all their friends.
The only way to get anyone who speaks Spanish to remove themselves is to speak Spanish back and pretend to be Mexican. Problem is, if they decide that you're a cool Mexican, they'll friend request you and follow you to every chatroom you go to, asking for roleplaying advice... in Spanish.
It's a nuissance. And it's not only limited to chats, as BarabiSama stated. In a lot of English games, there's always some wayward puppy that doesn't know what 'hello' is. Best thing to do is to give them a link to Google Translate, and kindly ask them to fuck off.
I actually like fucking around with them. I'm never super serious about chatting or gaming online, so they don't disturb me a whole lot, but I can obviously see why it pisses some people off.
I don't have this problem as much, but it does annoy me when it happens. You're trying to nicely explain to them, as simple as they can, that you don't understand, and when they do understand the slightest bit, they get pissed.
What part of "I don't speak your language" makes me the bad person? It's a two way street. If they want me to learn theirs, they have to learn mine.
