An ID is the scrambled form of your IP Address that shows at the end of your post. Unless you have a dynamic IP Address or use a proxy, it will usually show up the same each post, even if you change your name.
A tripcode is a password you use so that people can't steal your name. It just makes it so people can't pretend to be you if they don't know your tripcode.
