Cosplay Help (11)

I'm cosplaying as summoner Yuna from Final Fantasy X for a few anime conventions, and was wondering if anyone could help me find a tutorial for making her staff. I've searched google many times, but the only things I find are directions given in poor english or directions for staves other than her default. If anyone could help me, I would really appreciate it.

Thanks. :)

It's okay. :)

I have checked youtube, but I'm having a little bit of a hard stuff there too. I did find some stuff, but it seemed a little vauge (such as, "here's the finsihed project of my staff" but it doesn't tell you how to make it, or "you will need these things" but it doesn't say certain specifics such as the size of those things. Of course, I've never tried to tackle a project like this before, so maybe that's to be expected because there's something that I don't know.) I might just be overlooking something too, because that tends to happen a LOT with me.

...I just looked again, and I'm still having a hard time. That also might be because I can't look up videos on youtube directly, but through google; that being said, is there a specific, good youtube video that would work for this purpose? Because I think that'd be the only way I could look it up.

Ooh nice choice of cosplay!

While I don't know of any tutorials, nor have I tried this myself, I'd say there are multiple ways to go about this.

First off, the Staff part of it, get a large wooden dowel the desired width. The top section, with the notches, you can make out of cardboard or paper machae and just build off the wood. Paper Machae over it to give it a smooth look.

The top of the staff will be the hardest part. You can either cut this out of wood using a dremel (or other carving tools) or cut out layer by layer with cardboard, equaling the desired width and superglue them together. If you take the cardboard route, Paper Machae it so it's smooth. Carving, you'll need to sand. You can screw or nail it in place, or superglue/gorilla glue it (depending on how you want to go about attaching it), but don't skimp if it's wooden. Best bet is to carve a hole in the staff, place the bottom loop of the headpiece in the notch, and then glue/screw/nail it like crazy and papermachae it to look pretty when you're sure it's attached.

The charm at the end can be made out of any of those little do-it-yourself craft kits from Walmart with the right materials, or phone charms (that you have no problem destroying) some string and a bell, and tiny keyrings, which can be attached last.

After you have it built, spray paint it and use acrylics for the details and small areas; masking tape to section off a part of it.

That's what I'd do anyways.
And I would also gorilla glue and super glue each attachment -minus the bell's string- (if you didn't) just to be safe, especially if you use wood.

Hope I helped, and good luck!

>>8 And by top section with the notches, I mean the carved piece below the headpiece on the neck of it.

>>7 >>8 Thank you both so much! I was really getting desperate. As soon as I can get the materials, I'm gonna try building this. Thanks a million! :D
