For those of you who don't know, A-Kon is a three day anime convention held in Dallas, TX, every year since 1990, making it the grand elder of American anime cons. Last year, in 2011, it boasted over 18,000 official attendees who purchased passes; of course there were even more there who had come without purchasing a pass. To sum it up, this con is arguably the best con focused on anime in the United States

In this thread, you can ask and answer questions about A-Kon, discuss events and panels, plan meet-ups or hotel/travel arrangements, talk about cosplay or video/tabletop gaming tournaments, as well as any other relevant topics such as photo shoots, selling your own work in the Artist Alley, the best booths to visit in the Dealer's Room, attending voice actors, DJs, J-pop/rock guests, artists and directors.

This thread is not for any specific year of A-Kon. Discussions can be about the past, current or future A-Kon events. Please be specific towards which year you are addressing when posting. Thank you!

I have a stupid amount of friends going too, we have about 5 rooms all together with plenty of people staying in each one. Well as the date approaches we'll figure out what to do about meeting up, I'm even more psyched now...

Two guys at least 5 years older than me that I've only met online picking me up to take me to an anime convention (which my parents in all honesty have most likely never heard of) otherwise unaccompanied sounds a bit...well....yeah.

I can see your concern, especially once you drag parents into this. My alternative suggestion would be to find people closer to your age on the A-Kon forums (or other sites like facebook) to attend the con with and to stay in their hotel room. If you can't make it, then although sad, just is how things will have to be. Besides, we would rape your bumbum with our weewees.

I think we should create a email group for this. It would be easier to keep up with and you will get notified when someone updates information about meeting at the convention.

Yesterday I had left the setting for the group to where no emails could be received from non-group members. I turned that setting off so now emails will be received and you will be added to the emailing group where we will discuss the meetup and keep in contact for the convention.

To join the meetup group, either join the yahoo group via the home page or send an email to the group email address (I think that is easier). Once we get more than three people to send an email or join, we will start a conversation via email to discuss the meetup and convention.

BUMP for TWO days.

It is my understanding that those taking part in the meetup are Mael, serAphic_esperance, myself and possibly Haru. and Hypnos. Not sure if anyone else will join in; there could be members planning on joining the meetup once a time and place has been announced but have otherwise remained silent.

Bump for bad news, I won't be able to make it to Akon this year... I've had alot of shit happen recently and my job won't allow me the days off, and I can't afford to lose it. I'm so pissed off, you all have no idea.
