2012? my bullshit meter went off quite awhile ago. It's not going to happen, even scientists and the mayan elders that remain say so. It's a bunch of hype just to scare people just like Y2k and the "rapture" they said would happen last May. You wanna know what I did during the "rapture"? I sat back on a comfy couch, playing on the laptop and eating bbq ribs for dinner. yea. i wouldve died pretty comfortably. haha.

Well it's a possibility that it can through natural disasters like mega quakes, mega tsunamis and super volcanoes. One such natural phenomena that I've heard about is the super volcano that seems to be getting pretty active in Yellowstone national Park. A volacano like that only erupts 400-600 years(maybe I heard it wrong) and it appears that this volcanoe is long overdue for its next eruption. The damage it would cause can bring mankind to the edge and near extinction So that could be our 2012 end of the world.

We will NOT all die in 2012. There is no way that the world will suddenly end. We won't have earthquakes and mega tsunamis, and even if we did we wouldn't all die. Also on another note, there is absolutely nothing in the Mayan ruins that says anything about the world ending, just the count down. Now it is a survival instinct that you humans tend to think of the worst-case-scenario whenever you find something you don't understand, like with Y2K, That was the first time you would experience '00 with electronics, so you thought of all the possible disasters that could have happened, in order to prepare for it.

Did you know that the Mayans called their 'eras', 'worlds'? They basically predicted the end of another era. People today just jump to conclusions, so when it was translated as the end of the world, the thought it literally meant the end of the world.

The Mayan calender was based on Solar and Lunar Cycles, meaning that it was more accurate than the Julian calender that began with the Roman Calender and the Gregorian Calender which began in the middle ages.

The Julian Calender was flawed due to the fact of it not taking into account a solar year, causing it to gain days over time.

The Gregorian Calendar (The one we use today) is still flawed due to the usage of the Julian Calender. In fact, these flaws will not be worked out til February 2100, due to leap years and the like.

Daylight Savings Time is an American Concept that is entirely retarded and should be done away with.

Now onto Solar and Lunar Dates. There are 4 main days each year: The Vernal Equinox, the Autumnal Equinox, the Aestival Solstice, and the Hibernal Solstice. These are the dates that the Mayan Calender is concerned with. More specifically, the Hibernal Solstice, more commonly called the Winter Solstice.

This day is the shortest of the year. In addition, it was regarded as the beginning of 'Deep Winter' in ancient societies. It also falls on December 21 of this year.

Now onto your other miscalculations, Kyria. Assuming you know nothing about the Gregorian Calender, lets assume that Leap Years factor into the dates of the Solstices regarding the Mayan Calender (note: They don't). Assuming we subtract 2012/4 days from the current date, we set the date of the end of the Mayan Calender back 503 days. That would put the end of the calender in September of 2010.

But wait! The Julian Calender began the tradition of Leap Years and it started in 45 BC! So, if we subtract 45/4 days, we end up at the end of August 2010.

One more thing: Leap Years don't change the duration of time between Solstices and Equinoxes, just the observed date. Geological Time remains unaffected by our measures. Therefore, the date of the Mayan Calenders (Which worked off of Geological Time) has already been computed to December 21, 2012, by people significantly smarter than me or you.

In all honesty, Daylight Savings Time was actually a fair idea back when it was proposed, because the world still mainly relied on daylight for being able to work, and DST would let people continue with more daylight to work in (hence the name.)

The problem is, as technology has progressed and daylight has become less valuable over time, DST is a little archaic and the complications ar argued to outweigh the benefits.

I also should mention that it is not just the US that utilizes DST; as a matter of fact, the US did not even invent it. Modern DST was first proposed by G.V. Hudson of New Zealand, and Germany was first to use it effectively furing WWII.
