So after i found out what bbs stood for, I actually read a book and it was awesome it had the origins of the internet, and the real stories and how its major players came to be. I actually found out that bulletin board systems were a precursor to forums as a means of communication. It was actually what kept people on the net the longest... I actually feel like BBS type discussion frame makes for a more addicting Community. One doesnt have to sift through several forum pages to read the posts, it just scrolls down.

I am making this thread just to say wow bbs's are awesome. I actually like it more than an actual forum layout, any dissenting opinions?

It's fucking awesome, but currently, people are treating this BBS as a type of regular, run of the mill forum, in which they don't fucking post any type of conversation. A lot of the posts I see? They're fucking filled with "I agree XDDD" or "Yeah I knowz right XDDDD", which fucking pisses me off, it's like they don't know how to argue or state their opinion, or hell, just add in a real sentence to agree with shit. Just my shit I wanted to say.

But back to the topic I think BBS should be reintroduced as a more viable format of communication, keeps the communities more synched and connected, because when you visit a section you automatically see the most recent post and the post.. I mean its addicting to put your two cents into things.. I mean with exception to some unthoughtout bullshit comments, it really would help improve answers to the topic anyone starts.

Well, I've only been on one forum before I came here(I didn't get out much), and I have to say I like the BBS better. Seems more personal in a way. At the forum I was on, I felt pretty overwhelmed by all the pages and images. I'm a person who can focus pretty well, but that site messed me up.

Not like I'm not open to going to forums, but I'm used to BBS now, so whenever I try, I pretty much fail.

So guys post your opinions and things, BBS.....has it grown on you?

I prefer a BBS to the forums. I mean, its always fun to set up your avatar and signature - But it's not personal. People build reputations and their own little social circles and what not...

I don't join communities for social networking. I join them to exchange ideas and find content. For me, the BBS is a superior format that delivers exactly what I look to find.

It kind of irritates me that people treat this place like a forum. It isn't. It's function can only be equivalent in the loosest sense of the word.

I think that...there's definitely a different approach when it ccomes to posting on bulletin boards than when posting on forums.

I've noticed that a lot of the members who come here don't actually know what bbs even means, which just worries me. But it does serve a purpose in highlighting just how much the internet haas changed over the last decade. In the past, loading a webpage like say...deviantart, tumblr, anything that was heavily image-orientated would have taken you minutes on the old 56K modems. People were actively aware of the hideously slow connections back then and designed their websites accordingly by using text. But with (most) people having access to broadband and high speed internet nowadays, a lot of websites are just nothing BUT images.

What I'm trying to say here is, is that most of the younger demographic are actually incapable of holding intelligent discussion, because they've been so used to looking at shiny pictures that they lack the skill to actually converse through text, or even...spell properly.

Guys so do you like this format? bulletin board system?

Discuss if you agree with the guy or not. Personally, I agree fully. I know I don't want to register unless the community is damn well good. If this site was registration required and I read around AND I was new, I wouldn't want to register at all. Don't feel like making a commitment of sorts, because that's what registration is to me, a commitment to a site.

Also, I wholeheartedly agree with the part about anonymous posting counters vanity, but I'm a sort of vain type person, so I would still post with a name. But that's just me.
