I just saw the trailer for X-Men First Class (so excited) and it made me think about superpowers! Personally, I always think about what it would be like to have superpowers, I think about it daily actually, haha. What about you guys? Do you have any superpowers you would love to have and why?

Here's one of mine and my reason:

Teleportation;
I think about this one the most. My reason for wanting this power is so I would be able travel where ever I wanted and see everything I've always wanted to see. I could go anywhere without having to drive or and it would be quick and easy. It would be a simple escape, you know? And I want to be with someone who lives pretty far from me who I think about a lot and I really wish it was as easy as being able to teleport to where they're at

Lol, for some reason this conversation always comes up with my mates.

I always go with Psychokinesis; you can pretty much do anything, such as read minds and move anything (from cars to atoms). So (theoretically) it should allow teleportation, flying, etc.
Pretty much the best superpower.

Do you know any familiar superheroes with this power? I don't quite get it...

Anyways, personally, I'd like time manipulation.
It would have the benefits of teleportation, and you could stop time when your alarm clock goes off, and sleep until your heart's content.

My problem's always been not having enough time, and this would pretty much solve it.

Mind reading wouldn't be such a good idea to me. I know well how scary people's minds can be so I'd rather not know what goes on in there.

I haven't given this much thought, though teleportation would be a cool power, mainly for the reasons Soma gave. Going anywhere in the world in the blink of an eye? Hell yeah. Though there would be the danger of me turning into some lazy bum that would rather teleport to the kitchen to get a cup of coffee instead of actually walking there.

Now that I think about it, both sides have roundabout ways of doing things the other can, as you can create objects to cause destruction, but controlled destruction can create new things (plus - destroying uranium atoms by high speed collisions with each other to cause an atomic explosion would also be pretty badass)

In terms of practicality, Telekinesis. There is just so much you can do with it its crazy. Someone annoying you? Send em flying. Falling off a cliff? Fly. Locked door in the way? Turn the lock.

In terms of what I want though, I would love Spiderman's powers. They seems so exhilarating. Web swinging would be sooo sick. Climbing walls would made a very interesting experience (and make wall running/climbing so much easier) Jumping from building to building would be great for getting all those tennis balls i keep throwing on the school roof by accident XD

I want the power to manipulate my blood. To use as torture weapons, self defense, etc.

And also the power to share memories and emotions, so I can drive the victim crazy....

The most useful power would be the manipulation of data. One wouldn't have to worry about money, just transfer some cash from a millionaire's account. If you want someone to do something, spam subliminal messages to them, and if you hate someone, kill their computer. Simple as that.

Having the ability to control air would be cool. It is great for offense and defense. I would be able to blow my opponents away and probably be capable of flight. I could also create a barrier of wind so that nothing could even touch me, not even bullets. You know what - manipulation of gravity. Fun stuff. Anything that travels through a medium can be affected by it, so flying people can be grounded (or stuck at a certain point in the air), projectiles smash into the ground before they reach me, can steal someone's air by creating a precise gravity field near their head (totally stealing >>33's idea), use anti-gravity to fly (have to be VERY precise though, otherwise you make yourself or others depressurize and go splat), and the ability to cause massive explosions/implosions of objects.

Interesting dilemma: Gravity control vs Air control. Gravity moves all air towards source, Air removes all oxygen. Oxygen has to go somewhere - Gravity pulls it back towards self if simple displacement, could force atoms to fuse to form oxygen if Air is sundering molecules (but insinuates impossibly high levels of control from both parties).

Also >>33 - you wouldn't see them struggle for breath if you simply removed oxygen and left the rest of the air there. Look up the effects of carbon-monoxide poisoning, as that's how they would probably die. If the removal of oxygen causes the proportion of carbon-monoxide molecules in his inhalation to reach over 12,800 ppm (or 1.28% of the air) he'll be unconscious after 2 or 3 breaths, with death in under 3 minutes. Also, you wouldn't be able to beat Batman as BATMAN CAN BREATHE IN SPACE (see pic).

Thought about time manipulation, but I've thought more about the cons than the pros if we're going with the most literal 'time stop' sorta scenario.

For instance... moving faster than the speed of light (technically infinite speed), being able to see/breath when light/air doesn't work, there's a whole lot of things...

If matter stops moving, can you theoretically punch through adamantium or just about anything? I mean, the ground isn't pushing back, walls aren't pushing back, molecules sorta just move out of the way if we're assuming infinite force... does that mean it's not possible to even walk when time stops? Friction, energy, they're gone, man.

Stopping time is a scary ass thing to do. I mean, yeah, you can slow time to nanoseconds instead, but still scary to think about the complete nullification of passing time. >_o

Matter manipulation restricted to metals and earthen components. I pride myself in being a meta-hand fighter and the ability to spawn weapons at will from materials around me provides an infinite means of attack as well as various options should the need to improvise arise.

Would also be awesome to Earth Bender it up. Terrakinesis is all me, baby.

And when you're just feeling dandy, you can turn into Batman.

I like to invent a loophole in the power of omniscience. If you knew everything, and I don't mean encyclopedic knowledge, but simply everything, that would open up so many possibilities!
For instance, you'd know what people were thinking, or what was going to happen in five minutes. You'd know the best way to manipulate someone influential, or the right things to say to a love interest.
Best of all, you'd know of other people's powers and how to acquire them. So it'd really be like omnipotence too!

I'm thinking how easy & "clean" it would be to dispatch opponents just by changing a component of their internal system (like, gradually decreasing hemoglobin levels in the blood so they'd slowly die, and it can count as a sickness/disease authorities can't trace to me. ;P). Or increase the rate of deterioration of a corpse to mess up with the investigators. XD

Or just do it as badass as Katara does. With all that water/ air pressure slicing thing, water whips and blood bending.

I'd want the power of immortality a la Baccano! Except without all the being able to "eat" people or be "eaten" by other people. Just the part where you can't die. I think it would be fascinating to be able to live for forever, to just be able to see what happens and enjoy your life with relatively little worry.

I've thought about this heaps and heaps and heaps, there are some great ones out there, and some ones i've invented too ;) but i think ultimately i'd love the power of being able to turn invisible and super flexibility climbing skills etc. Why? because not only could I escape when i needed to from my own troubles with bullies and whatever, but i think that would be the most useful other people to, i could help people a lot with it. It could imitate a ghost maybe if someone really missed someone else, or i could hide unseen to catch a criminal or whatever. With ninja like climbing skills whatever, i could rescue trapped people and whatever...but all invisibly so i didn't have to be seen or known :)

I have always wanted to be telekinetic and telepathic. The combination of the two would be fantastic.

I want wishes that would come true. In a way, you could have all the powers then, just by wishing for them.

It does make me sad/frustrated/mad/disappointed that people can do such things or that such things can happen to people, but it doesn't overwhelm me. So, I guess some people would have those kinds of problems with being immortal, but I'd love every minute of it.

I'd have the power of illusion, illusion so powerful that that its indistinguishable from reality. Or the power of Imagination, to think something up and implement in reality. This would basically cover any and all powers that I could think up.

On a side note the ability to enter books and be a part of their stories, or to explore their worlds would be in my top ten.

Fly/Levitation

I would be able to travel without getting nausea or sick. I will be able to fly instead of walking or running. Also I will be able to travel a lot and see many places.

And if I was talking to someone annoying I will just take my flight and leave them behind XD

You can do anything with that.
Although, you would still inevitably age when you froze it. It would be great if you didn't, but unlikely given that you can still move around in real time.

Neko wants to be a Mahou Shoujo because she's a Puella die hard. I'd like my powers, the ones besides all the regular mahou shoujo-ness, to be something to do with illusions, make people see false realities and objects, the power to momentarily create and manipulate matter would be nice too, same with some teleportation.

Teleportation can also easily be used fro fighting, think about it, I think if you can teleport, your atom's atomic bonds would prioritize over other object's atoms, meaning it would push away, thos other atoms to make room for yours. Meaning, you can rip apart something by teleporting into it. (this is based on the idea that you have full control of your atom's placements in order to teleport.)who needs a bullet when you can just teleport your hand through their chest? Sadly the only drawback is you would be naked after you teleport... but you would also never get dirty! all of the grime would get left behind making you the cleanest in the world lol

How about a power to respawn in real life.

I, actually, have super powers.
But if I could have any other super powers, I would pick teleportation.

If I had a super power it'll be electricity or glass. The reason I say glass b/c I hate when it breaks then I can break it now with out any regrets and if someone mess with me you know where glass might go but it can also be artistic using glass.

Electricity, I feel it'll be helpful to power things up with if power goes out, also if someone mess with me depends on the voltage used I'll use. It can also save someone life it someone heart was stopping and they need those machines. I like to be helpful too.

Hm.. I'd say I would have always wanted to generate anything mechanical from anything. Like a lamp would just turn into something I think of off of the top of my head. Then, it would just miraculously work. No problems at all. That'd be great.

I would like to be able to travel to different world and gain the the world's specific powers. To travel between world I would need to leave the body as it can't travel, so only the soul travel and stores the powers, but entering a new world would manifest a fitting body. Also: the soul is immortal. Dying would be still possible, but only for the body, not the soul.
Of course this is pretty much overpowered (given the time), but powers like control of time and space are also gicen (to actually travel between worlds as a left world is frozen in time to actually stay stable)

The reason for this power ? Enjoyment. ONLY. I would use it to have fun all I want. Being a good person I might do some good things but that's all.

i've always liked the idea of being able to manipulate elements and use them to my advantage. Much like the infamous games, being able to manipulate an element like smoke, electricity etc would be really cool! Plus with all the abilities you could pull off, it would look awesome!
Honestly, I would like to have this power simply because it looks cool, and you could do a lot with it. You can do good deeds, but also have heaps of fun while doing it.

Some people would find this power to be disturbing. The power to have full control of all of your cells.

5. You can duplicate other people's memory and intellect
6. You can shape your body into anything (including someone else)
7. You're basically immortal (you can still die)
8. You can take a sample of an others blood and make clones of them

Because is used properly, you can go through the earth, and never die but from old age.

Empathic Mimicry

Learning to control this power will be hard ,but Learning how to control other people's powers will be complicated!

Teleportation

Simply because you'd have a much deeper understanding of how spacial and temporal movements work in tandem with your own cellular make up.

Which means your reflexes would be much quicker than others, and you could be steps closer to controlling your body at a cellular level. Which is something I've dreamed of being able to do since I knew what teleportation was.

Controllable invisibility.

Would be able to do so much. Steal stuff, do so much stuff and get away with it. It's like living in a separate world where you can do anything you want. I could find out so much for my own advantage. Basically a god. I'd be able to find out who talks shit about me and discover more truths about different people.

Memory make.

Making your dreams into reality.

I like the idea of healing because it can also be used for offensive attacks.

Flying it would be awesome
And healing (not everything no one can save everyone but most stuff)

Eidetic memory.

The manipulation of electricity would be very useful in our age. But even if I wouldn't be in modern surroundings, electricity can be drawn from almost everything and still hurts as hell. It also helps to hack and retrieve information. Can't imagine anything better than that.

Other than that, I am attracted to heal powers, though, to be exact it's less the kind of 'lay your hand on the wound, let it glow and boom magic everything is fine' as more in the fast regeneration of my cells and the acceleration of others' healing process. I don't have a very dangerous life-style so I wouldn't get to use it much but this power would technically make me be always in good health and I could avoid casualties in emergeny situation. Plus, nobody can actually tell if I did something or if I or anyone I heal just had damn luck.

Then there's pyrokinesis or just any other powerful, destructive and over all fancy power. Just for the lols of scaring people tho. Imagine someone harassing you and you just up and hold a flame to his face, grinning and then watching him flee in terror before me. Other than cooking meat and destroying things, it's not a very helpful ability in daily life.

In addition, every superpowers should respectively exist on their own. I'm not a fan of 'choose a power that basically includes every other' or 'choose the ultimate overkill power that outclasses every other'. I don't dislike having weak points. Not being able to be challenged would make things a lot more boring. (Yeah, even wrecking stuff can get boring after a while.)

I would love to be invisible. so no one could see me and I don't have to worry about friends (bc they cant see me anyways). Also, I could do whatever and scare the shit out of the people I hate.

I haven't seen anyone else with this Idea, but here's one that has been on my mind. I claim it as my original Idea because of this. I've been working on how it's going to look and work, for a while:

Anything/Everything that has to do with a pencil. There is atleast basically three components: eraser, wood, and lead.
My body would have wood as an outer coating. On my head, a top hat with an eraser as the tip. On the inside, I am made of lead. I can produce as much lead, eraser material, and wood as I want. My finger tips on my left hand are lead, on my right, eraser tips.
The three components/ abilities:
1. lead: I can shape the lead from my body to however I want and release it through either of my hands (left hand has finger tips out of lead just to show that it is my dominent hand). It can range from using the led to draw on paper to shooting the lead out of my hands in the shape of lead bullets to any possibilities related to lead.

2.Eraser: I can use the eraser ability to erase the lead i produce. if I were to shoot a lead bullet into someone or something, I could go to the spot of where my lead is and erase it from existance, thus removing any evidence of it being there in the first place.(there'll be more to this ability, but I'm still working on it)

3.wood: I can create/do anything related to wood. I can create wood for a fire place. I can make a wooden stake. I could make paper. Anything related to wood.

4. All three components together: I can use all three components of my ability together to do whatever they can do together. for instance creating a never ending supply of pencils.

In summary, there is way more to this ability that I am willing to type as it will be a key component to an original comic/manga (whatever you want to call it) that I am in the process of making. (I don't think I'll even finish two chapters, but I hope to get on this soon).

The power to make anything I can imagine reality at will. With that power, you can do literally everything. You can fly, teleport, be immortal, or, if you're feeling scientific, change the laws of physics to see how changing it would affect the world. And then turn back time if/when it turns out terrible.

Always thought psychokinetic powers would be cool.
Maybe telekinesis, electrokinesis...
Or pyrokinesis. That would be tight.

I actually have an idea for a whole universe of superheroes that pushes the boundaries of what a normal "superhero" is/does. One of the main heroes I've made can take the DNA of living things he touches and use it to shapeshift (Like a swordfish hand or bark skin)

See, he doesn't just CREATE energy, conservation of mass is a thing. What he would do is Manipulate energy. He can pull energy out of the environment to him (Setting him on fire, and freezing the area around him), or push energy into the environment out of his body (Freezing himself like iceman and setting the area around him on fire.

That sounds like the guy from the anime needles

Basically there is like these dudes with super powers and the main character has the power to learn other powers and in the anime you can only have one power and there are three dudes in the anime like that all called atom i bleive.

See, this guy who can DNA shapeshift, only has the ability temporarily. It runs off of three rules, 1. It slowly becomes harder and harder for him to shapeshift using DNA the longer it has been since he was in contact with it 2. It fades faster if it's closer to his actual DNA (AKA other humans) and 3. It fades slower the more he uses the DNA.

A travel type ability would be cool.
So like teleportation, portalling, or maybe even flying, but flying would be cold unless you were able to turn your body into spirit form or something like that.

Just the ability to be able to go where you want to go I'd enjoy.

I wish I had the ability to know anyone's personality by looking into their eyes. Or maybe clairvoyance, that'd be cool.

I wish I had the power of particle rearrangement. (in my opinion the most overpowered power I can think of.

It is literally the ability to rearrange particles at your own leisure into anything you can imagine. This includes Protons, Neutrons and Electrons. So basically, it theoretically lets you make gold from a tree. Theoretically. Not much gold, but gold.

I'd love to be able to freeze time, but only if it came with no repercussions. Telekinesis would be really cool too.
