My roommate has been stealing stuff from his workplace. He has been taking adderall, on top of his THC vape pen, all of this with a slew of mental health issues. He’s being erratic, paranoid (I’m talking turning off the phone and making me turn off my Apple Watch then go hide in the bathroom with him), telling me to learn sign language, and begging me not to talk to anyone. He’s also been asking me to give him any disposable income I may earn to help fund him in his endeavors of building DIY weapons and things he finds on YouTube. He’s even quit his job and become maintenance for our apartment complex, talking about how he’ll engineer the other three apartments in our small complex getting emptied out so he can move me and my girlfriend, and a friend of ours there; we’d each have one room in the two bedroom apartments dedicated to his “research” and “projects” that he swears will make him money. He thinks he’s ascending to godhood and becoming a real life Neo who has broken from The Matrix.

I don’t know what to do. I want to call the police on him, because he’s insane and can hurt someone. Including me or my cat. He’s talked about how if it comes down to it, and the apocalypse happens, we might need to get rid of animals, including my girlfriend’s dogs if she were to bunker with us.

He’s. A. Danger. And I might be in danger.

One of our friends told me I need to call the police, talk to his old employer, maybe see if they want to press charges or something. But I’ve been told by a friend and former police officer that it might not do anything. He could just get away with a fine and a misdemeanor, and then I’d be scrambling to pack my belongings and run because he’ll come back and know I ratted him out.

And I have no savings, no additional funds to just pack up and leave. I just took a second job to pay off my credit card debt, so I can finally move out and begin putting something together for my girlfriend and I. But he rants about how the world is ending and that our life together is only temporary if we don’t do something now. He wants me to put “saving the world” over my future wife. He will get red in the face complaining about how people are zombies, TikTok is a disease, and how there are people trying to limit our understanding of history and the world. He’s selling his anime collection at Half-Price Books today to go buy books that he says have not yet been taken off the shelves, because “they can’t take away our knowledge.”

One friend says call the police and try to get him locked up, saying it’ll keep me safe as well as him. He’s also offered to let me live with him and his mom rent free till I get on my feet. The other days to say and do nothing, just keep working and don’t humor my roommate, even if he’s showing signs of being schizophrenic.

Help. Please.
