Hey dollars, I want some advises, I really want to be a movie producer, I'll start college next year.

I need to know if I have to start doing something right now, like independent movies or studying about what's gonna be.

Any ideas?

Not a film major or anything even close to it– I've literally taken only one film class, as a general education requirement... But having an early start is pretty much always a good thing. I'd imagine that's even truer for the arts. So yeah, if it's what you want to pursue in the future, then start pursuing it now.

Starting small is usually a good bet though? Like... don't expect to have your first project turn out amazing lmao. Think early Youtube videos. Stuff people make for shits and giggles, stuff people make with their friends, stuff people make just cause it's fun.

As for studying, watch movies. Good ones and bad ones. Critique them. Watching Youtube reviewers like I Hate Everything, Cynical Reviews, and Elvis the Alien has actually taught me a lot about what makes a great film great. Read books, too. Understand what makes a good story, and how to tell one in a captivating way. Also– we all like to clown on them for this, but listen to your English teachers when they talk about symbolism. That's big in movies– even camera angles, framing, lighting, and colors can carry meaning because everything is a choice.
