hi.
My friends are making me feel like crap for buying a $280 knife saying how wasted my money is and so on and because i dare say i wanted to finish the set slowly (each knife of the set costing between $200-300 plus the proper tools to keep them well looked after and sharp costing between $100-200). dont get the wrong impression i really dont earn much per week at my job im just passionate about cooking. i just wish they wouldnt make me feel bad and try and put worries and fears in my head

I can't tell what knife set you're getting but i believe that buying high quality utensils, clothes etc that you use everyday and like, is far more beneficial than for example spending a lot on a dress that you could wear maybe five times.

People often spend a lot on their hobbys, but you're passion is cooking of all things. Food. The thing that keeps us alive. And you're getting knives. A necessity for cooking. From what you're saying they're the kind that last a lifetime.
Enjoy that knife and cooking.
What is the point if you can't spend your earnings on something that brings you joy, not to mention is useful everyday.
