Helping a friend (5)

1 Name: azulo007 : 2017-10-10 02:48 ID:p957I/Uo [Del]

My friend has epilepsy. How do I help him overcome his disease in a more practical way?

2 Name: Kanra : 2017-10-10 14:42 ID:AAhU9ttw [Del]

The stupidity of the people on this website is overwhelming, you might as well tell him to stop having the same eye color, epilepsy isn’t curable, at least not to our current medical research (which it’s the best it’s ever been) so please, for my sake, don’t be such a complete moron. But hey you can always ask your friend to “not be epileptic” that night just work

Enjoy

Srry to tell u this but ur friend cant be cured. The best thing u can do for him is comfort him when he feels down about it and be there for him when it hits. Srry about Kanra's bluntness btw.

Epilepsy is a condition, disease isn't the word i'd use. There isn't a way to cure it, because it's literally an altercation happening in his brain.

The condition can vary from person to person, but if I were you i'd just keep him away from bright lights and loud noises and such. Things like that can cause seizures. A seizure can be disturbing to watch, but if it happens, please be quick to act. Don't let him choke on his own tongue.

From what I've learned in my psychology classes and from reading up on different cases, he could have surgery to separate part of the brain to stop the seizures. However, this surgery can have major consequences and isn't recommended unless the seizures are becoming deadly.

The best thing to do for your buddy is do your best to make him comfortable. Epilepsy is a condition, and much like personalities disorders, aren't exactly 'curing material'. Think of it like this, you don't 'cure' someone who is bipolar. They get medication, counseling, and you do your best to make them comfortable.
