so hey i met this guy on the internet through a mutual friend. i became interested with the guy and eventually, i feel like i kinda like him. he first added me on social media and started the conversation for the first time. we only talked once through the internet, and then i realized i have a happy crush toward him. we personally met last week in an anime convention. he was with his friends and i was with mine. our mutual friend said that the guy i like is interested at me too. all the time, we were all together, my friend and his other friends seem to be pushing him to talk to me. he is super shy though. while eating, we sat beside each other and we can't talk at each other and everything seems to be so awkward. he always look at our mutual friend and was always like "please help me! i wanna talk to her". i'm also super shy because i super like him. then we started talking after a while but it's super awkward and didn't last long. we just stared at some places even though our bodies were looking at each other and there was silence. he asked me if we can chat later. i said yes. then we talk after that night, but the problem is, i were the one who started the conversation. and he was like "i gtg" at the end. after that day, i initiated a conversation first again. we talked about a lot of things. we even shared memes. we both like them. then, he eventually said "i gtg" again. i asked him when does he usually goes online so i know im not a bother to him. he asked "do you think youre bothering me?? coz u're not." then i was like "lol ok". then after that, up until now, he's not initiating any conversation. our mutual friend said he was just super shy, but he also likes me xD i really really like him and it's just sad to think that maybe he doesnt like me at all coz it seems like he doesnt like talking to me. but during the times we talked, he was very enthusiastic talking to me, even asking about "how was my day and etc." so my question is, should i always start the conversation just so we can communicate, even though i dont wanna look too desperate. but also, if i dont, he wont start any conversation and i dont want that to happen. another question, do you think he likes me???

When your friends say he likes you then he likes you. Continue talking to him and you will kno if he likes you or not. I think he is too shy to start the chat. Good luck!
