CALLING OLDER AND WISER DOLLARS: any advice for going into sophomore year of college? (6)

I start my sophomore year in a couple months and I've been feeling odd about life. Like I feel like I should be more prepared but I don't feel more prepared at all. And now the stress of internships and real life and harder classes are coming up and its all so stressful. Any advice would be greatly appreciated<3

What are you going for?

I think the junior courses for me will be easier, since I am more interested in the material. Also the freshman and sophomore courses in my major were weed out classes. I will be starting my junior courses in the fall too.

Most internships are offered over the summer, but there are still some in the fall and spring. For my major almost all internship postings require one to be in their junior year of core classes.

Stop by the university career center and see how they can help you find an internship as well.

I read Feynman's lectures in my spare time, since I find it fascinating. That helps me know more things I should learn, like complex variables and tensors. I check books out from the library to learn those things too.

Don't view things as preparing yourself for your courses, but for what you want to do. Usually your courses parallel what you want to do as well, especially in junior and senior year.

Hey! Thanks for responding:) I'm going for marketing and getting a minor in psych. I want go into the gaming industry but for the business side of things but its such a hard industry to break into and I've heard of other people before me who went to my school have failed in it so it feels like every move I make is critical.

You will be alright if it's what you want to do. For internships put yourself out there and ask for help from the university career center.

As for the failing, every major has people fail the courses. Lots of people in my major fail, due to it being one of the hardest bachelors degree. I'm going for electrical engineering and in all of my courses the test averages never were above 60%, most were around 40-50%.

Try not to stress out about it too much, as that usually makes it worse. If it's what you really want to do you shouldn't have too much of a problem. It will still be hard work for a degree and a career in general, but nothing of value in life comes easy.

You bring up some good points, you're right. I'm just stressing pointlessly. EE is gnarly thats the hardest level of engineering at my school. I actually have quite a few friends in that program and they always make fun of mechanical engineers because that took the easy route of engineering haha. Good luck to you and thank you so much!
