losing my house (6)

so i've just finished my senior year of hs and my parents are getting divorced (which is a relief because my father is awful). However, he is insistent that he gets the house, knowing that neither my mother nor my sibling and I would want to stay with him. I've lived in this house my entire life, and I know that I will have to get rid of over half my stuff since my mom plans on moving into a small condo.
I know it's stupid and that stuff is just stuff, but it has been really upsetting me; I feel like I will never feel at home again. Is there anyone else who has gone through this?

My family lost the house I grew up in a few years ago. Uprooting can be tough, but with a little handiwork, you can call anywhere home.

As for all the stuff you may have you get rid of, decide what you must take, see about what your father is willing to hold onto (if you're lucky), and donate everything else.

We didn´t lose our house, but we moved to another country. I wasn´t able to take everything with me. First I felt like I would hate living in the new environment. I was kind of the materialistic kid - collecting lots of stuff. Soon I realized that you can buy everything anew. As long as you have your most precious things around, you´ll be fine. I moved a lot in the last years - even passed a continent. Meanwhile I don´t miss anything anymore. You´ll get used to it, believe me! Anyplace can become your home. Belongings aren´t that necessary to feel comfortable, you´ll see!

I don't think its the stuff that is bothering you, but instead I think it's the broken family. You might feel like it isn't home without your entire family, and the memories you had in that house. Stuff can be replaced, but not the people in your life. It could be that is the root of you feeling like you'll never have a home again. It will be fine, since you will be surrounded by loving people.

yeah no kidding. Seeing my friends who have really nice fathers make me jealous, especially if they complain about really trivia things. I guess since I'll be moving into a very small apartment I'm afraid that I'll have no where to go back to.

>>5 you should have put that as the topic of your thread instead of the "stuff-thing". I also come from a broken family. I can comprehend your situation.
What about visiting your friends when feeling like nowhere to go back? It helped me to forget about the problems I had with my own family.
