Wanting less so that it means more (2)

A light shines brighter in darkness.
Food means more when you're hungry.

I don't know if there's a word for this, but I feel like this "mechanic" or concept can be taken to the extreme. In a way it's like wanting quality over quantity. But it sounds very different depending on the situation you put it in.

For example, not being able to care about people so that when you find one person you can care about, it will mean so much more than someone having a bunch of friends. However, this idea can be taken too far, or rather, something that only works if you find someone like that. The most you can care about someone, according to this logic, is when there's literally only one person in the world who you can care about. However, let's hypothetically say that somehow someone was able to exist this way, only being capable of caring about one person, what if they don't meet this person?

I used that as an example, but what if someone had this kind of logic for everything?

What I'm describing isn't a choice, but more of a personality or characteristic. Is there a name for it? Does anyone else feel like this describes them? And if you're just like this naturally, what can you do?

Also, random thought, but is this just what apathy is?
