Try to surprise him unless like hes older then don't give him a heart attack but typically parents are more accepting of this than people think.

Just tell him. Deal with the consequences of your actions, or he'll just find out by the worst of means- and nobody wants that. He has to find out sooner or later. It's better that you try to be honest with him.
