before I start, i'm sorry if i sound like a privileged asshat... i've been hesitating for a while if I should even post this, but I've been so confused about this for 3 years...

I'm a college student at really nice university and I get decent grades.. My family and my friends all want me to pursue a medical degree; they all "believe in me." Problem is that I don't believe in me... I don't know if it's because I'm just worried that I'm not good enough or if I'm objectively aware of my own capabilities and know that I won't make it through med school... does that make sense??

I've told them that I'm planning on being a nurse (I want to eventually work at a Planned Parenthood). They tell me that I can do better.. I don't want to disappoint them. My parents paid a lot of money to get me where I am now, and they expect certain results. I guess above all, I'm scared of failure (of being rejected by med schools after all the effort). If I follow my family's wishes, I know they won't be able to help me emotionally deal with that failure. My friends will be too busy with their own lives, and I understand that we are all at an important point in our lives.

I don't have a particular "dream job," I just know that I want to be able to help others. If I make it through med school by some miracle, I'll be able to help at a greater capacity...

To add another layer of confusion: if I do managed to sneak into a med school, my parents will pay for EVERYTHING.. If i choose another path, I'm on my own.

I just want hear what you guys have to say about this.. or what would you do?

you're amazing that you managed to to survive that.. I dont have an advise cause i dont understand what you've been going through.. i mean I've never experienced that..

so I could at least cheer you on in whatever you're going through life..

You can do it! We all believe in you! what that's probably putting more purser on you. sorry! any way I'm sure you'll be able to do something that will help a ton of people! sorry if this is sappy. but It's true! you can do anything if you believe in yourself! so I can be like this.

Kinda wrong of them to tell you "you can do better" if you expressed that that's what you wanna do with your degree. They paid the money, sure, but it's your future on the line here.
If you decide you actually do wanna go through with this, though, I'm certain you've got what it takes. I get determined vibes from you; you got moxie.
