Lack of Passion (8)

1 Name: Lunak : 2016-04-10 15:58 ID:kqZ081AR [Del]

I've never really had an ambition or passion for anything and I can't seem to have any particular talent. Currently I'm in 11th grade(one and a half year left until I graduate high school). The only subject I'm good at seems to be English, but I'm not interested in becoming an English teacher or translator. I have absolutely no idea what to do with my life. Has anyone been in the same situation?

Hey there, yes I know how you feel. I had the same problem and I still kinda have it. You should just try different things and hope that you find something that's interesting to you. Maybe you have hidden interest in programming? Or maybe in cars (mechanic) or even in art?
You have to try things to find what you are searching for. You still have the time to do that.
Anyway, I wish you good luck on your life, even If I couldn't really help, I tried~ :P

>>1 A lot of people are still unsure what they want to do with their lives at your age. I thought I knew, then halfway through my university degree I discover it's not what I want (the irony).

Try a diversity of courses -- chem, bio, math, art, music, history, political science, etc. and see if something catches your interest. When you get to university or college, you can start with a general, nonspecific program, to test the waters (a lot of people do that in their first year and a half) before deciding on something.

Polytechnic schools have interesting programs, have a look at those, usually it's more hands-on and more interesting than what college/university has to offer.

I'd suggest, after you graduate high school and if you still don't know what you would like to do, to go to college/university or a polytechnic school and enroll in a program that will allow you to find a job you can make a living out of after you graduate. Start with that, and as you progress through your degree (especially that first year), try different courses (those electives you need to take? Good way to test the waters).

Hope that's some use to you. Don't stress out too much about it, you'll definitely find something that will make you think "That's it! This is what I wanna do for the rest of my life!" In time, in time :)

I've heard from a lot of adults (i'm talking 30+) who've only recently discovered what they want to do... so I guess an important thing to remember is you have your whole life to figure it out.. as long as you actively seek it out and don't settle so early in life..

However, it really helps to know what you want to do earlier rather than later. You get more prep time and that helps in today's fast-paced society :/

It's not about a lack of passion you just don't have something to be passionate about, like me for example I've graduated from high school and took and passed exams for college but quit after a month just because i didn't enjoy studying with others and i learn better when i study by myself,so that's why I've been studying programming and brushing up on my English cause that's what i enjoy studying on my own about things i love to do

Thanks for all of the replies, I really appreciate it ^^. I was worried that one and a half year won't be enough for me to find anything I could enjoy doing for a living (since 17 years weren't enough...). A friend of mine told me to "pick what I want to study, not what I want to work as", but the thing is that I'm not even sure about that. Anyway, if I still don't find anything before I finish high school, I'll take your advice, Rora. Once again, thank you all for the quick replies ^^

Holy hell, I'm in the same boat. I'm 17 and the most I've been able to think of is maybe art but it's a subject I struggle in a lot. I don't feel I have talent in much, myself and it discourages me a bit. I'm glad someone can relate.
