College Roommate Seeking (7)

1 Name: Tonks : 2016-03-03 23:43 ID:FeEpyjC9 [Del]

So to the point. My college campus dorm is pricey, and I was wondering how I can find a roommate for cheaper the alternative (finding an apt)? Does anyone have any recommendation websites besides craigslist (not a good idea tbh) to find a roommate? I;ve searched some online but I'm not sure which one is the way to go...

How 'bout, ask people you know in RL?

When I was in college, we had Facebook groups for every graduating class and people would often post about searching for roommates (as well as other things like buying books and whatnot). I went to a large public university so if your school is actually relatively small, I'm not sure if anyone has created a group for your school. Nevertheless it could be worth looking into if you have a Facebook account. Also, if your school holds any sort of campus visit event, you should check that out and ask around.

I'm actually planning to visit tomorrow. The thing is, my school is they type pf school that doesn't want to acknowledge the use of facebook or social media sites outside their actual website. The closest we've gotten to is a reminder app that we can't interact with anyone. I have a fb but I don't know half the people personally, and everyone I do know is not going to my college :/

Well, it's a good thing you're visiting then. It's a perfect opportunity to ask students already attending the school about their living situation and alternatives to dorming. Regardless of whether your school advocates the use of social media, it doesn't hurt to try searching on Facebook for an existing/active group. Also, if there are off-campus apartments near your school, you should check and see if they have a website. If you're lucky, they might have a forum system where you can browse listings for roommates. But if worse comes to worst, you can just go with the dorm option for one year which gives you the chance to become accustomed to your school and meet new friends(aka potential roommates for when you move out of dorms). I'm sure within a year of living on-campus you will figure out your alternatives to dorming.

Occasionally, people put out ads in the local paper. Hope this helps!

Thanks guys~ I visited one of the two campuses today, but I'm mostly looking to the main campus. I've searched for the fb page, and no luck, but the the suggestion of staying on campus for the first year really sounds nice if it wasn't so expensive... it's over a thousand dollars a month (with/without the meal plan). Yeah, crazy. Over spring break I'm really pushing to do scholarships though and hopefully that works out. But thanks again!
