I Don't go out often, and tonight I'm supposed to hang out with my dad's best friend. My dad passed away when I was a kid, and hanging out with his friend is a good way to hear stories about him and basically kinda get to know what he was like. Obviously I'm not hanging out with his friend just for that, but he is leaving it up to me what we do this time. The past couple times we've gotten together, we've done dinner and a movie. I feel like it's getting repetitive, and I want to do something different. I don't know what, though. We are in a small town, and most places close about six. Everything else is at least 30-45 minutes away, but he's willing to drive, so. Any suggestions? Whatever we do, it needs to be cheap

Well. First, you are going to sit. It can be on a public place or in a restaurant (in that case, you need to order a dinner, of course). Then, you are going to talk. Ask him things and answer his questions. Share experiences and pay attention when he's speaking.

Arcades are always fun but they're sort of expensive

Try to start a conversation. I know it can be hard at times to do so, but the conversation is pretty much the base of operations here. From the conversation can come activities, or ideas. The hardest part will be starting the conversation.
Do not start with small talk, ever. it may seem like the best and easiest way to go, but most of the time it ends at a dead end and awkward moment. The best way to start (in my opinion) is to tell a sort of story, like a funny one or scary one. Example: So, the other day I... and so on. this can branch off pretty easily.
Going on a walk somewhere can also start something. This is because you can witness something entertaining. From that can easily sprout a conversation.
