Chatrooms aren't supposed to be intimidating at all, if anything I think they're meant to be the exact opposite. They provide anonymity, just like this thread. You can create a whole new you just by changing your name and/or icon.
I didn't know there was a thing about being "accepted" by people in chatrooms. If anything, no one has the right to judge, because you/we are all in the same room. The benefit of that is that if you don't like the people, you can always leave and join a new room.
Of course, like
>>2 said, just be wary of the room names. Typically people aren't picky about who joins a room or not unless it's stated specifically. For instance Roleplay or RP rooms would probably not take too kindly to you if you show up for some light chat or talk about something irrelevant.
Usually there is at least one room that's a free-for-all and is just there for light talk or fun conversations, so those are always the best.
Don't worry much about whether you talk a lot or not. People on chat usually respond to anything and everything, so when you finally do decide to join a conversation or whatnot, they'll readily talk to you. If you're nervous about how to talk or how to express yourself to other people, just remember that you can be whoever you'd like to be**. You are in complete control of who you are and how you would like to be perceived.
I don't go onto the bbs/drrr chats very often these days, but if we ever run into each other, I'd love to stop and say hi and talk to you guys.

**of course that also means other people are whoever they want to be as well, so...be safe! :'D
