Problem with one of my professors (5)

I'm taking a communications class at my college and the professor is really making it hard to do anything right in her class. From what I've heard she's a feminist and she's one of those "I'm always right and if you disagree with me you're wrong" kind of professors. I don't really have a problem with feminists, but it kind of gets on my nerves when she judges you more harshly because you're a male. Plus she doesn't really give you a chance to explain your viewpoint. Also, it's not just guys who hate her class, females hate it just as much.

What really made me angry was the grade I got on our latest writing assignment (a 60 if you're wondering). She told us to write paper on our opinions about a certain topic, but when I wrote my opinion she took off points. And if that wasn't bad enough, she pretty much told me that my opinion was too biased and that I needed to reevaluate my way of thinking. Isn't an opinion supposed to be biased? If that is how this class is going to go, it's going to be a rough semester.

I have a friend in this class who told me this morning that we don't need to believe what we write, we just have to write what she (the professor) wants to hear. I don't know why I never thought about that, but I think that I'm going to follow his advice. What do you guys think?

I have a friend and all the econ classes he received a bad grade all due to him not writing a liberal standpoint. He is more conservative and wrote the papers on his own beliefs, not the teachers liberal ones. Once he learned to write what the teacher wanted to hear, even if it was incorrect, it would get an A.

Sid's right. I studied Othello not too long ago and I personally hated the character. If you haven't read the play he's portrayed to be a nobel character bit throughout it's revealed that he's actually quite evil. I was told that my opinion (what the question asked for btw) was wrong and I got a C. As soon as I started writing about his noble qualities (which are btw few and far between) I was getting straight As. In the actual exam I went back to doing the "Othello is the true villain of the play and Iago was merely a catalyst" viewpoint and I got an A1 (highest grade in my country).

Yeah, I'm just gonna start writing what she wants to hear. Problem is, I'm tempted to be really sarcastic while doing it.

Shit teachers like that sadly exist everywhere, even in college. It's a sad fact. The best you can do is play along and write what she wants to see. See if you can talk about the paper after school. Find out which of your viewpoints she didn't like so you know what to do next time.

Yes, it's absolutely stupid that you're expected to suck up to her viewpoints instead of exercising your own ability to think. This is just one of the MANY things wrong with our education system. Just remember, it's not your fault that this failure of a teacher has let you down.
