i was arguing with my friend who told other people about something personal to me and conceded that they had a right to tell other people because i never explicitly said that it was to be kept private. do you think she is right?

Hmmm I'm not entirely sure since I don't know what it is you told them but if it was something that was obviously meant to be confidential, they really shouldn't have.
But overall, I think they should have respected your privacy in the first place and shouldn't talk about someone without their permission.
