I don't know why but I thought it might be good to ask here if anyone knows any random but good ideas to write an essay on. I want something related to anime or social issues reflected in the culture.

You could do Social Attitudes to anime in comparison to the reality of it. You could cite the likes of Pokemon (anime) as an example of how people see anime as childish and something like Boku no Pico to illustrate how people think it overly sexualises children. Then you could cite something more thought provoking like Steins;Gate or Terror in Resonance to show that it can be just as normal and enjoyable as any other form of cinema. Just an idea but I think you could easily make an essay out of it and maybe show more people that it's not an invariable hodge podge of cartoons and trash.
