Is it possible to truly enjoy power? (22)

1 Name: Mina : 2015-08-28 08:51 ID:+KHjn25B [Del]

I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this, but there is no philosophy board I decided to just ask this here. Anyway, this question hs been bugging me since i watched 'Skins' (great series btw) and I would really like to know what you guys think. So... is it possible to truly enjoy power?

Thanks to anyone who replies (^ω^)

>>1 I think yes ... When you have power on something (or someone, but I hate have power on a friend or a normal person), you can control it, you can do whateaver with it. So you can change this thing (or person) to something you like, you can enjoy this modification.
You can be as well more confident and have the impression you're doing something in your life (btw you can do lots of great things without controlling someone)

Stupid exemple : When you play at a MOBA game, if you're doing most of the kills, you gets objectives ... You have the power, and when the game end, you feel great, your team wins thanks to you.

That depends on whether or not you can hold onto your power without becoming greedy or lustful.
Power often leads away from the path of being a good person.

It really depends on a person possesing the power and the kind of power the person posseses. It is highly possible that the power is so overwhelming it corrupts even the strongest person possessing it. Again, the answer cannot be exact.

I think the answer is of course, but let's be clear about what 'power' means.

Remember, 'true' power is often illusory. A little child who stomps on ants feels like they have power and enjoy it. Yet most of us don't consider the child powerful because 1) we have the same power and 2) because we know there are more important things out there than being able to squash insects.

But that's the easy case, let's extrapolate. A billionaire businessman, two yachts and a private jet fleet. Does he have power? When he speaks worldwide newspapers listen, when he wants something done it is done yesterday. You could say he has power and he enjoys it. Then randomly he is diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. Or his kidneys fails. Or he's diagnosed with a neural disease. All that wealth, all that influence, it all means nothing. Where has his power gone? Well, it's still 'there' in the sense of influence and fame, but all of that is worthless in this new situation.

Wrapping up, can you have power and enjoy it? Yes. But what must be cautioned against is becoming blind to the fact that power exists in a niche. The size of that niche differs between person and situation, but it's a niche nonetheless. Believing that one's power is somehow endless is an arrogance that can only lead to dismay when that illusion shatters.

Hmm.. I still think power is endless. They talked about two or three kinds of power but they forgot the most crucial one, the mind. The power of the mind is the one that shaped our current civilization. Without imagination and creativity, no one could have invented automobiles or infrastructure. Without curiosity, no satellites could have gone to other planets or will ever know about the universe. Without the mind how will we able to control anything. Each of us have this power, and people use this on our everyday lives. If you think power is an "ilusión" then you are neiither wrong or right. Afterall, power is just a word but have different meanings.

I think that you can enjoy having any kind of power, but if you don't know what you're doing, or you get to hotheaded, you will hurt yourself. Generally it's the responsibility from having the power you don't enjoy, it's the repercussions. If you didn't like having the power, you wouldn't get it or use it in the first place.
