Choosing new class for high school (3)

I think I already made a post about this a long while back but I guess I'm still thinking about it.

I'm learning chinese in school and this year is my last to complete the course and so far as I was taught, I NEARLY FORGET EVERYTHING.

I only manage to survive this long because I'm really good at memorizing material quickly. The passion of learning this language has died on me though. I'm more interested in learning japanese, korean, or thai.

I want to change to a philosophy class because it would be nice to have a better understanding in life since I mostly think of school most of the time, I barely think of life after school even though that's still years away. Plus I like watching those "school of life" videos as well...

The thing is that my parents want me to continue chinese because I can get a scholarship because of it. I studied it for 3yrs and completed 2 of them in high school which makes me available to those colleges that require 2yrs of foreign language.

Do you get scholarships from completing a chinese course or can you with just two years in high school?

I just don't have a passion for chinese anymore and the "friends" I had in that class are going to take them blended so I won't see them anymore.

I heard this girl who was taking spanish in school disliked it that she changed classes and has not regretted since her passion was pointed toward the class she wanted. I think learning a second language is important but I'm just passionate on the one I'm studying.

Not to say that china isn't bad, I would very much like to travel china and would still study chinese but I rather do that online and on my own time.

But my parents want me to do the opposite where I take philosophy home and chinese at school. But if I take philosophy at school and can ask more questions and have a more focused idea on what to study.

I'm in junior year so I have to do a LOT of work from SAT, ACT, and looking for college is hard enough. But enjoying high school and making some friends is also something important to be able to be more loose than being uptight all the time like how I have been planning my life, college, jobs and stuff. I also want to have fun as well...

Please help

It is good that you already know a little of what you want, and don't want to do. It took me a while to figure out what I wanted to do. I am going back to college as a 23 year old starting from scratch.

Yet hearing about this scholarship do you know what it is. Have you asked your parents to show you the parameters of the scholarship? There is many scholarships out there and you would most likely be able to qualify for more than just that one. Also for you to qualify you might need to continue your study of Chinese in college. Mainly ask what the scholarship is and the details of qualifying.

I took philosophy me senior year in high school and it was sort of a let down. There was some good discussions here and there, but they usually didn't last long. I would say half the class rarely had any input while some were not open minded. They just couldn't comprehend some things happening, even in what ifs. If you want a rich intelligible philosophy class I think college would be a better choice to take that class.

But I also realized how broad philosophy really is. The shortest description of philosophy is the desire to learn and question everything. Learning anything and everything helps one ascertain more of the truth. Not just one truth, but the truth behind the questions we can, and can't answer. Like what is life, what is religion, what is free will, what is math, etc.?

So if you just want an introduction to philosophy high school would be a good place to take it. If you want more than just an intro you should take more classes in college.
