Living on your own is hard (4)

Hey there!
Well, next year I'll be living on my own, away from family in a student's residence (I'm very excited!).
My parents think it will be hard for me, and I don't doubt it will be hard to adapt to a new life style, but I want to show them that I don't need them that much and that I can do just fine on my own... So, could you guys give me some tips to live on your own and not starve to death?

Yes. A lot of my friends (who are living away from their parents) regretted it and were homesick in less than a month. But who knows? Maybe you're an adventurous person, and you might find it enjoyable;
Anyway make sure you can cook. That's VERY IMPORTANT. At least learn how to cook a simple fried rice, easy egg dishes, or you can just go to Pinterest/Google search for Easy College Recipes...

Also, make sure you always have spare emergency money somewhere. That's the second tip to survival. Cause you never know, maybe your wallet got stolen? Or you need to use more $$?? You never know..

Mmm.. Next up I would say is to make some friends ASAP. You'll feel lonely soon. Having some friends over might help. You also need to set a timetable for stuffs like: Laundry, cleaning the bedroom, grocery shopping, etc, etc...
Seriously, set a timetable. That's all I can really give for tips. Hope you'll enjoy ;)

The basics of survival
1) You need food, learn to cook. Going out for dinner is too expensive, fastfood is unhealthy.
2) Security! Not talking about locking your door (althought that's important as well) but I'm talking about financial safety. Always save some money for the rougher times, tons of bills you never heard of may surprise you. Insurances might be necessary as well.
3) Social management. Having some friends to rely on, but not overdoing it and party every night, leaving you practically dead the morning after.
4) Be (somewhat) organised. University (or whatever you're attending) can be quite complicated, especially in terms of time management. Be prepared for that, also, don't leave your residence up to chaos.
