So, a couple of days ago our neighbors whom my uncle has been leasing land to used one of our dogs in a dog fighting match :| which is not only ethically wrong, but illegal. Usually, we would call the police and be done with it, however, my uncle has been warning (read: threatening) us to not call the cops because he'll lose the tenants. Another thing is that the dude who used our dog is also a convicted pedophile and I have a young nephew who lives with us. This guy is seriously seedy and I don't feel comfortable with him next door (we know that he's been to our ranch without us knowing at the time but we have no concrete evidence). We've also had problems with him shooting guns in the morning, like at four in the morning. My uncle also mentioned that the guy's wife is illegal and they're behind in their payment but he still keeps them there because my uncle owes him a favor...in short I've been thinking about not only reporting them for dog fighting, but a convict in my state is not allowed to have or be around guns, nor in a specific range of children (he also refuses to put the sign up), yet my uncle keeps urging me not to and that it's "none of my business." Do you guys think I should? Should I wait and see if they get evicted? It's gotten so bad that my grandmother is terrified and wants to give up the ranch that we've toiled over for 19 years, longer than I've been alive.

First of all, you shouldn't wait to see if they get evicted. In my opinion, you should plan out how to tell the police about the dog fighting match and the pedophile that lives near by. Get some support from your family (parents) so that everything can go much more easier for you even though your uncle is involve in the situation.

I agree with #2.
A crimminal may have his reasons and there might be a sensible reason why your uncle covers for him, but if that guy blatantly refuses to abide to the law and threatens you, uses your dog for such purposes and disturbs your lifestyle, of course you are not wrong to rely on the police. I wish you could motivate your uncle to intervene, but it does not seem like he would change his opinion.
Actually, how is your uncle involved in all of that? If he threatens you in a way that could actually harm you, maybe moving on is the better idea. In the worst case scenario, some shady buisness might be going down, it is better to stay out of that than to endanger your own safety.
So in the end, it all comes down to whether you think your uncle would actually endanger his own family for the sake of a criminal. This may sound overly pessimistic, but then again, I can not really judge a person I do not know, that is up to you.

>>2 I've decided to pursue a case against him with the help of my law teacher whom knows a lot more of the law than I do.

>>3 from what my mother has said, they were both in a gang in their younger days and the neighbor threatened some guy who shot my uncle (I know right, my family is sort of fucked up) and the guy fled to Mexico :/ they also have 'business' together.
His threatening is financial, my grandmother has trouble affording her meds and we help out as much as we can but it's not enough, so he forces money on her and if she makes him angry, he'll cut off the money and she'll suffer horribly without her stroke and epilepsy meds.
