Free will isn't an illusion, you need to act on it. What you do depends on what happens to your free will. If you decide to drop out of school, that's your decision it's not an illusion. You might have something constricting you to achieve that free will but it's your mental thought on the free that will that achieves it. It's not an illusion it's your decisions and thought that make it real.

As your decisions can be influenced (and almost always they are) by the enviroment or your own memories and traumas, free will is kinda hard to be achieved, don´t you think?
