Another fun idea is to go walking around behind stores (like, if you have a busy street with a whole strip of big stores, just walk behind them). The only time you can touch the street is if you have to cross it. You never know what you're gonna find .u.
And if you find anything interesting to pick up, you can record it on your tape like it's evidence to a crime, and at the end of the day, work out "what happened" in your journal like there's an ongoing mystery.
On the note of geocaching, if you have someone willing to adventure with you, you can do a budget version by putting an easter egg or box somewhere and then drawing up a terrible map to it for a friend to try to follow (and switch each time by having the other person hide it).
