Blocking people on the net (5)

What do you feel when you block friends on facebook, and you really know each other in real life. You two had a heated debate resulted us to call each other names. I blocked him to save myself the headache of his overly passionate verbal attacks even if I stopped talking. We know each other though, as we belong to the same org and it'll be awkward if we see each other when I just cut him off in my virtual life. How do you deal with these things if you've encountered the same thing?

I think that was very childish of you. You dislike losing an argument or don't like their views so you ignore them online and deal with them in real life...? Wow.

>>2 I don't think it's childish to stop arguing with someone if it turns into name calling and gets really heated, however I agree that it is childish to simply block them. You have to settle it with them and make things right, instead of copping out.

Now, if he really was continuing to attack you after the discussion was done (and not in the minutes or hours afterwards) then blocking him is the right move. However, if both of you called the other a name or two, it doesn't make sense to block him just because of that.

Hanako,

If you're being harassed, you have every right to block them. If they're not your friend, I see no problem here, and the awkwardness will disappear, quite rapidly, in fact. People cut ties with those who aren't any beneficial in their lives, and the world keeps spinning.

That being said, if they are someone that's close, a friend, or even an acquaintance. Blocking them, ignoring them doesn't resolve the predicament. You've once created this bond between one another, and now, this one argument compromises it whole. Depending on the angle you look at it, it may show how easy it is for you to just drop people left and right. Tells a little bit about yourself. Are you someone, people are willing to cherish once they've gone out their way to become your confidant? Are you one who will go out of your way to mend things back to the way they were? I'm not exactly trying to tell you how to make/keep your friends, just consider they're human too. Cyber-bullying is obviously wrong, so go up to his face, deal with matter, explain how you feel. State if he continues, say you no longer wish to speak or have any relation with him other than work purposes.

So yeah, BA-BAM. Keep calm and deal with it.

I agree with this. I'm not sure what this person was to you or why but you must confront this person and clear out that situation. You can't ignore it so just try to disfuse it but if worst comes either report harassment or physically. Not something ppl want but possibility if the person doesn't back off you might have to take extreme measures.
