No I get what he means. I think a similar situation is like in the beggining of Gantz when he gets excited because he's about to see someone die. We know we shouldn't want death to happen and obviously won't kill or anything to see it but we still want to see it by random chance. We know it happens so we just want it to happen to us.
But the other thing that comes to mind is Lelouche in Code Geass because he said that he was living purposelessly until he got his Geass. We want something to change our situation so that we don't have to live this boring peaceful life.
I don't know how well I said all that but simply put, you're not alone.
