Uni Major (8)

Hi guys, I'm just wanna talk about uni major, esp the one who struggles with his/her major. I'm taking architecture and to be frank, it's fun and okay at first but later on (now) I'm having difficulties to study. I feel like I'm not creative enough to be an architect blablabla...I couldn't help it but it makes my spirit go down, esp because this semester was really hard (thx to my coordinator, he's really...intimidating, totally, like the worst spirit crusher type).

I dunno what will I do after I graduate, I mean, I'm so clueless what I wanna do (whether work/ continue my education). I used to think I wanna be a successful architect but then it's gone down to as long as I can design and live well w/ the money...And now I'm thinking maybe I'm not good as designer and I should do business instead, but still in architecture business...like property or something...Anyway, has anyone got the same problem w/ me? Feel free to share ur opnion and problem^^

>>1 it's okay to be unsure about what it is that you want to do with your life, I mean it is a pretty big decision, but just remember that the average person changes their career many times (I can't quite recall the actual number but I remember it being surprisingly high.) My advice to you is to go see a career counsellor and/or an academic advisor, they can help you out. Don't second guess yourself, if you like architecture then go for it, ideas will come to you when you need them :3 I hope this helps!

Can I ask why you chose to become an Architect ?
Myself I wanted to become one, I did a stage to discover the work but I ended not liking it that much and changed my mind. So I'd like to know why you wanted to become one and do those reason have changed ?
Do you feel your coordinator as a kind person ? I mean do you thin you could talk to him about the pressure he is putting on you ?

At first I was fascinated by how architect can make a place where people can live and socialize. I think, every job purpose is to make human's life better and personally, I think architect takes a great part in it. It's like giving advantages to the people yet also taking self-pride in my creation...

Well, at first it's fun but after going through w/ it, it's really hard and architecture has lots of aspect, such as health, law, structure, blabla...Anyway u have to know it all...So yeah, sometime I think it's too much for my capacity...So the fun turns into stress =.= (truthfully some laziness maybe) so I'm not as optimistic and spiritful like I used to be in my major...

My coordinator isn't pressuring me, he's pressuring all the students in my year...LOL, I dunno why but the air around him is already intimidating. I was so stressed by his method but now I kinda got used to it but he made me realized how lack of skills I'm...So maybe...The problem lies in me... *sigh* I'm not giving up though, even if I have to drag my lazy ass, I'll keep doing my assignment...It's just stressful sometime...

Yeah, that was the social/law part of the job that discouraged me back there.

Maybe you should train your memory. Find fun studding, I know it's hard, really hard, but if you achieve that life will be easier I think.

Living the same pressure help the formation of groups. Think that you live the same trouble as the other students, try to talk to them, see how they manage the situation them-self. Help those who can't and hopefully you'll find a way to manage your-own doubt and weakness.
Sometime I'd like to have someone to shout at me "Move you motherfuking ass and finish your work" é_è

Anyway, try your best to find pleasure in your work, it's (I think) the best way to keep continuing no matter what happen.

Have you read any of Rem Koolhaas's books? I'm no architect, but the writings he has done for the sake of architecture are fascinating. Small, Medium, Large, Extra-Large is a complete mind trip.

>>7 Not yet but I know it. I'll read it when I have time, thx for the suggestion^^
