College Life? (9)

So, I'm in my first year of college and about to finish up that first year (5.5 wks left). I just wanted to know if anyone else was like me and doesn't have a single clue about their future. I look around and it seems my friends are more or less set on what they want to do. However, I did declare a major in business focusing on marketing and management. Although, I'm not actually in my major, I'm taking some classes for it. Somewhere along the way I realized, I don't want to be in business. But I don't have a new focus at all. Simply put, business was just something I waved out of the air and went with even though i didn't have an interest in it.

So, I have no clue what I should focus my future on. I don't have a passion for anything b/c I'm like a jack of all trades. I can do anything after I learned it but I won't be a master at it. But I'm also average. Completely average and a bit boring.

Does anyone have any advice for someone like me?
[On a side note, if it counts for anything I have a weirdly strong-ish work ethic]

>>1 try new things, look around and research things and careers that might interest you. You must have some interests, what do you like to do? At least are you a science person? An artistic person? Ect, just sit down and think about it. Good luck~!

I'd say just try your best to pump yourself up. It's not always going to be easy. You're gonna need to stabilize your attitude. Focusing on the future can sometimes be a bad move, especially if you aren't 100% sure just yet. (although it's good to have a goal to work for, people have different paces. go find your rhythm). Just live in 'the now' or whatever and eventually you'll pick things up; these things make you realize things about yourself. Take it slow, take your time, don't put too much pressure on yourself, try to separate other peoples' opinions and yours, use your head, don't be driven by expectations, grab a beer, loosen up. I know it sounds like advice for making slackers, but these are important. There's a lot of things that I can say, but I believe you already know most of these things, if not all. All just basic reminders that you get day to day. Collect yourself and arrange yourself, take it all in. The fundamentals help. You should be fine. Experience what you can when you can, good or bad. This is a good way to mold yourself. You live, you learn.

I'm not really saying this is what you SHOULD do.

Just giving you some input to later sort out,
Tarou

Neko-tama, Tarou. Thanks. Even though I've been told this lots of times but it doesn't hurt to be reminded ^u^ Although, I do think I will have to abandon my go with the flow attitude sooner or later once I figure things out.

I'm in a similar position to you, except I didn't go to collage. I finished year 12 last year and took this year off. I don't know if I even want to go to Uni and don't even have a job. Now my situation has changed a bit because I've found an interest in writing. Whether I'm good enough at it for it to be my job I don't know. At least my life vaguely has som direction now.
With you a few things could happen. You might just find out what you're interested in later. There might be something obvious that you're missing. Just don't go with the flow though. What you're looking for might not be on the average persons path. However, you might just have to put up with the most convenient jobs and do your interests on the side. All I can say is to be patient and be willing to consider options that others wouldn't. You will probably know what to do when the time comes.
I hope I helped XD

You and i am on the same boat in a way. it's kind of funny that i landed on business too... I only have 1 week left and i'm no longer a freshman, Yay! anyway, i am 17 and, i didn't know what course i would take in college since i am a jack of all trade but average in everything, too. i decided to apply for DevCom(developmental Communications)in college since it seem like an easy job. the university i applied in said that my grade in specific subject in their entrance exam didn't make it for the course since our university has a 'matching' system. i had to go to an interview if i want to apply for another course so i did. i was aiming for VetMed(Veterinary, because one of my friend got in.. shockingly, when i enrolled they place me in Agribusiness management since they said it was my best match. so, yeah, i didn't choose my course, the university did...
they said that my kind of attitude(hands-on leader type) ability to adapt and be jack of all trade is in line with entrepreneurship or creating new 'market'.

i don't know what work i will be doing in the future since there are a lot of possibilities, so i'm focused on "what now" instead of "what next". I figured i'll just get my degree and worry about my future job when it is already within my reach
