Weird Medical question that may sound dumb. (8)

I forget to breathe. If i am super relaxed or zoned out something happens and i stop breathing. It can go a minute or two before it starts hurting and i notice. It happens a lot and leaves me feeling tired and has been going on for about a year. I've begun to wonder if its linked with my anxiety meds or something. I'm worried it will happen in my sleep. Should I bring it up with my doctor or am i so stupid i don't know how to breath. Is this a common thing? Does it make sense anxiety meds could do this? Can anyone give me their opinion lol :3

>>1 it does happen occasionally, but if it's become a problem that's been worrying you then definitely see a doctor. Breathing is an autonomic response and you shouldn't have to think about and if you have to manually force yourself to breathe then there could be something wrong.

This happened to me not long ago as I was drifting off to sleep, I literally forgot how to breathe and took at least 20 seconds before I could regulate my breathing, by which time a panic attack was already starting. I brought it up with my doctor but not much was said, I guess she just didn't know much about it. I've heard this happens to everyone when they sleep, but it only affects you if you wake up during it, most likely if you're stressed or feeling anxiety.

I said 20 seconds, it was probably much longer than that when I think about it, but the next day I felt absolutely drained for the whole day.

>>3 90% sure what youre referring to is sleep apnea, which is pretty different than "forgetting" to breath while wide awake

it only happens when you are super relaxed or zoned out? Sounds like a type of sleep apnea, which i had for a bit last year. except your case sounds pretty severe and yes, it can be dangerous if its this bad. go to a doctor as soon as you can :) forgetting how to breathe has nothing to do with intelligence, even plants "breathe." so yeah just go to a doctor and tell them whats going on

I think it is called "apnea"... or sleeping Apnea. it is a chronic condition or something.. it's best if you check that with a doctor, it could be serious
