My cousin, who is 13, has been living with his schizophrenia mom for awhile (7 years) and when I went to see him for the 1st time in awhile; I found out that he has shut down completely. He can't do anything by himself not use the bathroom, getting up or sitting down. He doesn't talk or communicate in any way. He rarely smiles. He hates meeting people's eyes, so he looks away when you look at him. But he does eat by himself and heats up his own food at midnight when no one is looking, so there must be some hope I believe. So I'm asking people with schizophrenia or not do you think his mom could have traumatized him? And how do we go about helping him?

Its really difficult for a child not to receive emotional and social provisions from his parent. It's much better to help him out immediately.

You could bring him out somewhere fun for maybe during weekends or a few days a week. That would be my best suggestion.

That child must be taken away from his mother. Thats the best solution.

My grandmother was schizophrenic raised my mom and my mother now in her thirties is still recovering from being traumatized its best to get him out and get him help immediately not saying his mother is a bad person but needs to care for herself before a child.

i dont know much on the subject, but if your opinion is that he is in danger, he should be taken away emidiately. you should contact child support, or, at least educate local police on the situation, in case the situation becomes dangerause.

What next steps should my cousin take? He doesn't like to eat in front of people nor give eye contact. He also doesn't like when people touch him. But, I believe he senses things because when loud sounds go off he acknowledges them you can tell he is watching his surroundings. But, at night eats by himself and knows how to microwave his own meal.

In a way I'm the same I usually eat at night when people are asleep and only people I trust can touch me and I don't look people in the eye, but I acknowledge this about me. I believe he needs to work on trusting people and reconnecting. Maybe animal therapy will help. He isn't completely shut down and animals can sense a persons stress and can help, a dog may be to loud so a cat or even a lizard could help nothin that will die quick like a fish, that'd be bad if it left him so early

>>4 If you don't mind telling me what exactly is your mom traumatized by? Maybe it would help my cousin if I had suggestions of what might have happened to him. Ignore >>9>>8.

>>11 She doesn't like talking about it but I made a mistake it was her father who was schizophrenic and her mother had multiple personality disorder but her father raped her and physically abused her like slamming her head into a car floor when she was just one years old, since both her parents had extreme mental illness she was in danger on both sides, but lots of sexual and physical abuse and if not that its a lot of neglect. The neglect i personally believe could be the worse, the sense of being unloved and unwanted because she only got negative attention.
