Is it Really a "Small World" After All? (2)

I couldn't find this anywhere (sorry if this is a duplicate thread).
I've been doing some thinking and it's come to my attention that my life, and the lives of people I know, seems to be held in a small bubble. I know that people complain about this a lot but at times it really does feel this way. I’ve lived in the same area for all my life and have traveled only a few times outside of the Denver-Greeley area. My parents have lived in CO for the greater part of both of their lives, but not always in the specific area. Now my reason for asking is simple, about four months ago, I started dating a boy that goes to the same high school as I do, after a short time we discovered that our fathers had a common friend that they’ve had for some time, which got us to wondering; do our fathers know each other already? As it turned out; my boyfriend’s father and my father had been close friends, and had known each other for sixteen years (since my boyfriend was born). Now to the point of my little tail, do we really live by the six degrees of separation idea, or is it merely tacit assumptions?
