My mother died when I was born, I've never met my father and I don't know where he even is. I was adopted into a family containing a women and her four year old son, I was three. I'm now fourteen and I'm in love with my adoptive brother. I only found out recently he also loved me. Only my best friend knows and she is somewhat supportive. We haven't told our mother yet.

It's likely budding hormones but it's also not incest genetically speaking. But as much shit as I'm going to get for saying this, I don't believe you can actually be in love at the age of 14. That's not even something you can accurately explain as an adult.

Yes, it's most definitely hormones. Should that stop you? That's a personal question. If you feel weird about it, the stigma might not be worth the trouble. People run through several different crushes throughout their adolescent years, without exception - that's just how the teenage mind works. Not in a stereotypical way, but in an actual biological way.

You're making it sound like it's an irreversible decision that you have to act on.

I don't think your doing anything wrong. If you think you are than that is something you should talk over with your"brother". If you decide your making the right decision and you go public with it, don't expect everyone to accept it. Everyone is going to have an opinion, but there is definitely going to be a handful of people that will support you. I don't think you're weird.

On a more serious note, I say, go for it. Dysfunctional families have the best drama and will automatically make you a better person since you'll now have super cool and interesting life stories to tell to people when you're older as to explain why you're now so fucked up.

On a another more serious, serious note. I think you really shouldn't do anything about this. Mostly because you'll have to put up with a lot of social and familial disapproval which will make your life a lot harder than it already is/will be, considering how you're a teenager and OH GOD LIFE IS ALWAYS SO FILLED WITH DRAMA when you're at that age.

Hormones?? Im not a biologist, but I would say that hormones telling you to like/love somebody are not going to tell you to love your adoptive brother... I would say, that if you truly love this guy, then it is love, fullstop... If it was going to be hormones, most liekly it would be some "totally cute guy" at school, which is just pathetic. If you love him, you love him, and love isn't anything to be ashamed about... I think you should go public and be proud and not ashamed. Although, like >>3 said, there will be people who will stand in your way.. SMASH THEM TO THE GROUND! There is a difference between wierd and something you don't see everyday...
