Thoughts on open-relationships? (9)

Okay, so maybe I have weird morals, but whatever. Anyway I just broke up with my boyfriend on 7 years yesterday. We were together since I was 14 soo he has a HUGE part of my life. We didn't leave on bad terms really. I know he knew it was coming, because the relationship had fizzled out about a year or two ago and really we were just like room mates at this point living together for about 5 years I think? Well not that he's not around, I feel like I just want him to be around forever, like a huge part of me just died. I never want to not see him, or talk to him, or be around him, but I think we need to just be able to go find ourselves too. Anyway I was wondering if anyone has ever had an open-relationship where you and your partner each agree that you're together but you both can also do whatever you want on the side. We really do love each other, but I don't think we can be happy with just us. I know this is probably really weird to most of you, heh, but whatever.
So if you've ever had one of these relationships i'd really love to hear what you thought about it! I'm just...lost. Thanks!

Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't.
I say try it.

>>2 Thanks! I'm just afraid to even ask. I can never tell what he's thinking. But if I could just drag him along through my life like a puppy, and him do the same to me, I think i'd be happy C:

Sounds silly to me. But then again, all relationships do to me.

>>3 It's something you ease into, without a doubt.
Don't force it.
Open relationships are a lot more tricky than regular relationships.

I think it's stupid. What kind of man am I if I can't satisfy every one of my girlfriend's needs? Besides, if I ever found out my girlfriend was cheating on me I'd give her my boot in her ass and tell her to get the fuck out.

I also think open relationships are stupid. What's the point of being in a relationship if you want to do other things "on the side." In my opinion you just need some time apart. Being around someone else for too long can really wear you out. You say this happened recently, so give it a few weeks and see if you feel the same way then, before you say anything.

I prefer my relationships to be monogamous, for the sole reason that I feel like an "open relationship" can be seen as a lack of commitment. However, I understand that that's what works best for some people and I don't look down upon it. It's just not for me.

I would personally prefer a monogamous relationship, but I don't think there's anything wrong with an open relationship as long as both parties agree. Whatever makes the couple happy is fine with me.
