Perfectionism (9)

1 Name: Kezko : 2012-09-21 10:50 ID:tXKayjli [Del]

Is anyone else here a perfectionist?

I actually got DIAGNOSED with it. I went to my therapist and he said, "Oh, you've got a mild case of perfectionism." Let alone I didn't think it was DIAGNOSABLE in the first place, but there's a first time for everything. I'm a "self-oriented striver" who pushes high expectations on me and ONLY onto me. Let alone this didn't fare well with my pride.
I get acute test anxiety and I can't bear getting something wrong or making a situation awkward. If my notes aren't neat and legible, I'll rip the pages into shreds and start all over. If I can't get somewhere on time, I won't go. It's not crippling in a tangible sense, but I feel like I'm going to lose my mind on of these days in my quest for perfection.
I don't really need advice, but I want to know if ANYONE else is like this...

Just because your therapist told you you were a perfectionist doesn't mean he diagnosed you with a condition. Last time I checked perfectionism was just a personality trait, not a medical disorder.

But since you have a therapist anyway, shouldn't you take this up with him/her?

The day when he gave me my "diagnosis," I ceased going to him anymore. Even when I tried to explain myself to him, he laughed me off. I haven't been able to find another therapist that would understand.

But in the end, it doesn't really matter who I talk to. As long as everything fits in place in the end, it doesn't really matter.

I'm a little bit of perfectionist and I would take ages to write perfectly but I can't because then I never finish and then it's not PERFECT!!! I hate it when I get a B and sorry I'm starting to rant ^-^.

OCD and perfectionism are alike and some studies say they're linked, but having OCD has never crossed my mind. I don't think they're the same, though...hmm...

I think I may have it. I'm an artist, you see, and when I mess up on one little thing or something looks just a bit off, I go berserk and start erasing whatever I had done as if my life depended on it. Also, if something like water gets on my paper or I leave a really dark erase mark, I'm like, "IDIHHSHKLSHGSVH!!!!" and crumple up the page into the tiniest ball I can make it. C: So I know how you feel. Also if someone scribbles or writes on my work, oh don't even get me started! ><

>>8 This is the same with me. I'm a total perfectionist when it comes to drawing, unless I just give up and post it anyway. But otherwise, I'm most definitely not a perfectionist.
