Is there liking shoujo a taboo? (25)

1 Name: Tatsuo !hylilKS3pw : 2012-09-20 21:18 ID:9oXJjvSJ [Del]

Okay, so as the title says I love shoujo anime...even though I'm a guy.
I love shows such as Ookami-san to shinchi no nakamatachi, Kaichou wa maid-sama, Lucky Star, K-On!, Birdy the mighty decode, Chu-bra, Yuru Yuri (which Idk if it actually counts as a Shoujo due to the high amount of lesbian allusions), Oriemo (again not sure if it's a shoujo), Clannad (ditto) etc.
Their hilarious and I love the romance in these shows (of course some are purely entertaining) I didn't think anything of it till one of my friends saw me and immediately told me that I shouldn't walk around with stuff like that in my bag if I wanted a girlfriend.
I would like to know what is so wrong with this.
People immediately think that I am gay, but I'm not.

Here's a story:
So one day I am walking into my favorite anime shop and browsing their stuff. All of a sudden this dude comes up to me (trying to get me to buy something of course but I don't mind he seems cool). He ask's me what I enjoy watching and I told him "Yea I'm pretty into shoujo. I like stuff like K-On! Lucky Star you know shit like that man."
The dude looks at me with a questionable face (either disgust or pure curiosity) and then askes me "Hey man. Are you Gay?"
This really ticked me off >_> I do not like being judged based off of what I like/enjoy. If you are going to question my sexuality at least get to know me and be my friend first, don't be rude.

I would like to hear you'r thoughts on it Dollars.
Does liking shoujo even though I'm a guy make me gay, or less of a man than any-other male?
Give me feed back please! It helps myself esteem (-_-)b

Just for the sake of fending off haters or people who dislike this post; I have nothing wrong with gay people I just don't like it when people think that about me without talking to me more than 5 minuets first.

I loved Lucky Star. And K-On. And Oreimo, which was more of a comedy than shoujo. And more I can't think of.

And I'm a guy.

Guys who like shoujo are... normal, relax I know plenty of guys who like shoujo inc me, its funny, its thought provoking, tell me you watched Clannad right (after story inc)? A man understands his feelings confronts them and accepts them, dont try so hard. sounds like others are just over compensating when they talk about DBZ (not bashing DB or DBZ) and stuff like that. Fruits basket, Aishiteruze Baby, air, ouran host club, Uta no Prince-sama: Maji Love 1000%, and there are so many others, that have you confront loving someone, arguing and understanding others, liking someone, losing someone, laughing with others, crying with others and the strength to carry on or move on. So ya. I cant force you to see it my way. So ... good luck :)

Hell yea I watched Clannad+AF it was amazing!!
That show is easily one of my favorites.
And it's not that I think that it's wrong for a guy to like shoujo but I just wanted to hear from you guys what you thought. I want to know if anyone can explain (legitimate reason) why a guy liking shoujo is bad.
I know people who do think like you >>4 and me but I believe (pessimist here) that there are more people who think otherwise.

I'm going to check out some of those shows you mentioned >>4 thanks for the new list to watch

Btw my number one top anime is K-On! just a heads up >>3

>>2 Can you help me understand how girls dislike guys who watch shoujo? (assuming your a girl)

If you're curious at all, Clannad After Story is about being a father. It's totally for guys because guys can have their own sappy shit.

>>5 Uh, like Crisis said, I said noting about disliking guys who watch shoujo(yes, I am female.)

Anyway, my best guess on why we have a premise on girls disliking guys who watch shoujo is because today's society wants a strong man filled with testosterone and masculinity.

But, not all girls are like that, only a few. I's love to have a guy friend(or boyfriend) who watched shoujo, it gives us that much more to talk about and have in common.

>>7 >>9 I know that's not what you said I just wanted to know if you knew why girls didn't like that. Not saying you said it.

There is nothing wrong with a male liking shoujo anime or manga. That would be like saying females aren't allowed to like shonen anime/manga unless they're lesbian. You should probably show tell those people that there are straight men out there that enjoy watching anime or any type of entertainment that is targeted at a female audience. Yes, shoujo is meant for a female audience but there is no rule that says only a girl can like the series. And if your friends claim that you'll never get a girlfriend because you like shoujo, well then they'll be surprised to know that there are girls out there who do like guys that are into shoujo. Not to be sexist, but it shows that there are guys with a sensitive side.

It's not gay. Guys are allowed to like cute things, there's nothing wrong with that.

Being gay-

Liking/loving the same gender.

Liking shojo while not having a romantic attraction to same gender-

Not gay

Ya know, I blame those teenagers down the block for misinterpreting the word "gay".

I think that it's great you like cute and romantic things. I would love to have a guy that shares my interests as a boyfriend. And if you find a girl that says, "oh, you like Shoujo? I'm sorry, I can't date a guy like that," then she doesn't deserve you.
Besides, the word gay originally meant happy. If I were you in that situation with the store guy, I would've just replied, "Yes, I'm quite happy. c: " for I am a bit of a smartaleck. I think that it's A-OK for a guy to like Shoujo, I mean, I love bloody Shounen manga and anime. And I'm a girl. :)

>>18 I can't even imagine the hyper nerd who wouldn't date someone for liking shoujo anime :P

Oh and I'm pretty sure K-ON is aimed at guys anyway.

20 Name: Shade : 2012-09-23 20:17 ID:u4CsRQ+I [Del]

I love Shoujo anime. Or just anything like that in general, and i'm a guy. Though I do tend to keep it to myself. Only my closest friends really know about it. Though girls always seem to notice that i'm not the most manly guy around. And I am straight.

21 Name: Ei : 2012-09-29 22:51 ID:weqnSNJw [Del]

Shounen stuff incorporates a lot of shoujo elements into it, and there are so many series that blur the lines that the classifications start to become irrelevant. Me, I'm a guy, and I like both. I sometimes exhibit some feminine tendencies, but there's nothing wrong with that. I'm also straight, and I can't recall ever really questioning my sexuality.
Studies show that the people who are most adept at operating effectively in today's world are those that exhibit both masculine and feminine traits. And that goes for both genders.

Kaichou wa maid-sama (manga) and Kimi o Chuushin ni Sekai wa Mawaru (manga) and tonari no kaibutsu-kun (manga or anime) and Say i love you (anime) seems pretty good so far.... enjoy, I did ^^

i guess being a guy who loves shoujo could also have a romantic character maybe? it does seem gay, but at the second thought, not really... :)
