Won't Let Me Drive.. (17)

1 Name: Shizu-chan !PGqewi0ls6 : 2012-08-13 01:25 ID:1YnaUjlB [Del]

Hi guys. So I'm 15 and I'm turning 16 on the 21st (yay~!) but my mother REFUSES to teach me to drive. She's literally scared shitless of my driving, even though I can't show her my driving because she WONT LET ME!

Anyone know how I can convince her to let me drive? I mean, I literally NEED to learn how to drive! I've got to get to work!

You could always walk/bike to work unless it's a long ways away from where you live. Or you could at least ask someone to drive you. I'm not sure if your mother's decision is going to change about you driving... I apologize if this isn't very helpful, I'm trying my best.

The place I work at is pretty far from where I live ^^" It would probably take 40 or so minutes on foot and bike isn't much faster. The reason I can't be driven there anymore is because my best friend used to drive me but she moved away D: and my mom has work so she can't drive me.

If worst comes to worst I might have to quit my job because I can't get to it =_=

Thanks anyway though :)

You can always have someone else (like a family friend) teach you. My ex had my parents and another friend's parents teach her how to drive.

I don't know if you guys have this in America (I'm assuming that's where you live, forgive me if I'm wrong), but you could always learn from a driving instructor. Maybe get a few lessons with them at first, and I say a few because they're really expensive, and build up your confidence and skills, so that your mum might feel a little more comfortable teaching you.

Parents do this a lot and my advice is you treat her like royalty and show her that you're very responsible for about a week at maximum.

you could always ask to see if you can do it in like an empty estate or a big car park or something, somewhere that has a low speed limit and no obstacles

I agree with >>7 find large empty lots and drive around those for a while, than into light traffic and so on.

yeah just introduce it slowly, if we knew what country you were from it would be easier because in australia you could just get an instructor anyway and thats problem solved

If you do learn to drive where will you get the vehicle? The main reason I didn't start driving till I was 18 was I didn't have the money to buy one. I ended up getting a car at the police auction for about 1500, but the others I wanted all needed to be towed. I took the bus and needed to be at the bus stop an hour before work, until I saved up enough for a car.

Thanks for the advice guys.

>>9 I live in the USA.
>>10 My moms got 2 cars so that's where I'd get the other car.

is it possible to get instructors or something?

Yeah, I reckon you either get a driveing instructor to start you off (if they're available), or like >>7 said, try to convince her to let you drive in an empty car park, to get the basics down and to develop her trust in you.

Well because they are under-aged, I really think they need a Parent or Guardian's Signature for that to be allowed.

>>14 I meant as in, their mum would be with them when driving in the car park

I know that feel, bro :< Keep us posted! If any of these suggestions work, share it for all the other children with paranoid parents.

Yeah thanks so much for the suggestions guys! I talked to my mom about it- like literally sat down and had a whole talk just on this subject- and I think she's finally got a little less weary of my driving. She's still skeptical, but her words were pretty much along the lines of "you've got to learn somehow..." I told her about the car parking lot suggestion (thanks for that >>7 ) and she agreed! :) Luckily there's this store near my house that is closed on Sunday so I've started practicing then. Thanks again!! :)
