can someone help me. I've been having nightmares throughout the whole break and they just seem to be getting worse at first it was just some of my simple fears like im stuck at a high place or that im stuck in the middle of nowhere without my family but they just get worse! I've dreamed that a killer killed me and all my family and friends and another i was getting chased and then torn apart by some big monster another im just watching my brother and my sister getting stabbed shot and torn to pieces and i can't turn away or close my eyes and its just so horrible and i always wake up screaming and sweating and i can only sleep when either my big sister or brother come into my room and i cry myself to sleep on one of there laps i dont wont to feel like a burden to them they say its fine but i just dont know

Have you been eating/ drinking anything with sugar/ caffeine in it before you sleep, OP?
Try Barrett's method, wich involves remembering the dream while awake, and practice imagining a better outcome. Continually rehearse this better outcome, and before you go to sleep, remind yourself that your outcome should occur.
As always, remember that it's only a nightmare, nothing more.

no i dont have anything with sugar or caffine before i sleep its not healthy and i tried to think of a better outcome but they only get worse every time my siblings try so hard to make each day better so i might forget but i just can't and i know a nightmare is only a nightmare but there still scary im 10 and i know nightmares cant hurt me but there still horrible

I've had a similar problem for a long time. I've always had pretty bad nightmares. In fact, I've only had one or two happy dreams that I can remember. Nightmares don't really scare me anymore, though. Can you guess why? I turn them into stories.

I don't know if you're into writing, but you might want to try it. Even if you don't write the story down, imagine it in your head. If you don't want to imagine a friend getting hurt, change the characters in the story and then continue it. The more you do it, less scary the nightmares seem. They just feel like another story when you wake up :O

i'll try but im not really into the idea of horror i can really take it and really dont have the heart to write about someone else dying even if they're not real

did you know you can control your dreams?
I do it all the time. if you dont like how the dream/nightmare is turning out then you can change things up a bit.
Im not really sure if everyone can do it but...yeah...
I had a dream that this creepy thing was chasing me, tryin ta kill me or sumthin. I was running away but started getting tired. I picked up somethin random and threw it at... well, it. so yeah it got pissed and chased me evenn faster. but instead of running away, i ran towards theen hit it with sum metal thingy which came outa nowhere. it was a bloody dream but i got the upper hand. the trick is to keep communicating with your brain while its "dreaming". you see you aren really dreaming but your brain is. but you own your brain so you are dreamming using your brain but not you. thats how i see it. when ya see a monster approsching you or a loved one getting killed in ur nightmare, say to your brain, no, i dont want that, and hopefully it would comply. mine does. most of the time. just keep doin that and you can control ur dreams AND nightmares!

I have a similar problem. There more like short visions instead of nightmares though. Some nights I can consider them nightmare, but only whEN I know I'm asleep. Most of the time I see these short visions just when I'm already in my bed and I close my eyes, on my way to going asleep. I'm not asleep so when ever the visions get really intense I open my eyes and there gone. But when i finally go to sleep I dream, like I said, sometimes they're nightmares, but most of the time they're not. They're just... strange... For example, one of my visions was about me taking this survey, and this guy next to me started going crazy and I noticed he had no left arm. He was looking at me scribbling on the paper yelling "HELP ME!!!" lIKE A CRAZY PERSON and pounced on me, trying to attack me. And my dream, started with me, with a knife in my hand. I sort of lucid dreamed from there so I'm not going to go into details with that one. It got so bad, I developed a bad case of insomnia, that I'm currently recovering from. But still... This might not help, but >>6 Is right. You can control, ur actions in ur dreams. So myh advice would be to follow >>6's advice and lucid dream. It works...alittle^^;...

I have problems like that too. Amythists are purple stones that make you sleep, but sometimes they konk out dreams too. Um...A dream catcher? Melotonin, this OTC sleeping pill. Might also work. I never dream when I end up taking it. Maybe that could help.

I have this same problem. I've found it easier to control the nightmares by talking to someone you trust about them. I stayed up all night talking to my friend when I had my first nightmare, and then I just kept talking to her about it, and the problem got better and better. I know it's going to be hard to find the right person you trust, and it's going to be even harder to get over the nightmares, but we're always here for you and you have your friends and family's support. ^_^
