My advice? Be honest. Tell them how you feel, but also make sure they know that you don't want it to effect your friendship if it doesn't work. If you both value your friendship, you'll still be friends if it didn't work.

From personal exprience, I believe that the person with the feelings, you, are in control of whether or not you're friends in the end.

Don't shut him down like that. I've dated 2 of my best friends in the past... at first it might feel awkward for the both of you, but after that phase things are actually much more enjoyable, and IMO dating a best friend usually ends up better than dating some one else.

How about you try to find out how she feels about you without just saying "I like you a lot" because if your friend ends up not liking you then you are most likely screwed. Even if your friend says it won't be awkward to be friends and with each other a lot it is not ALL the way true. There will be this new barrier.... Though it also depends on her personality. What if she decides she wants to fuck with your feelings toward her... So yeaaaaaahhhhh it is better to be a ninja and find out her feelings towards you first :3
