Studying helpz~? (13)

Okay, first off, I know there's already a thread for studying here. This is a bit different; I'm not just looking to study for finals. See, my grades are dropping—I take lots of notes and work hard in classes and stuff, but my classes are kind of hard and, frankly, I'm not smart enough for my workload.

As a result of my overloaded-ness, my grades have dropped significantly in all my classes, on all my significant assignments and my tests. I'm just barely maintaining "A"s in most of my classes, and I have a "C" in math. I've got just under one quarter to bring my grades up, plus finals.

What are the most efficient ways to bring a grade up? If it's just studying harder, can you offer specific tips? I can't just spend more time on things; I don't have the time to spend. If it's impossible, does anyone have a gun that I could borrow?

That was a joke.

In bad taste? Yes. A joke nonetheless.

lol fucked up line at the end.

Anyway, if it is math you are having the worst problem in, I recommend Kahn Academy. It's a free website where there is no signing up or anything like that, but the guy really knows how to explain difficult concepts.

If he can make calculus sound easy (which he does), then I'm sure he can help you with whatever you need.

Oh HELL YEEAAUUUUHHH. Kahn Academy is real great. If you're having math problems and you're in highschool, well that's a derp. I do too, but the best thing is to get tutoring after school. I mean, if you take the bus, they have an activites bus or late-bus right? Anyways, ask your teachers if they have studying sessions or tutoring sessions after school on any day. There is the first step i spose i shouldve started on, and this only applies if you're CONFIDENT, SURE, AND DEDICATED IN GETTING YOUR GRADES UP:
1. Drop all extra curricular programs you're juggling. The more stuff you have, the more stressed, the less sleep. Sleep is extremely important, especially if you happen to be like me. I can't go a second under 6 hours of sleep, otherwise my day will be incredibly drudgy, naggy, and ungnarly. Take the rest of the quarter off from all extracurricular events. Take more time with your academics.

2. Along with sleep, eat properly. I suggest eating 3 PROPER meals, stop with the junk food, they give you a bad look, a bad taste, and a bad attitude. Stop with the sugary candies (i kno right, that one's the hardest because who doesn't like candy D;) and stop with the potato chips. If you're going to get smarter, eat smarter. Your brain functions better with fresh, nutritional, happy food. Chips are made of fat, the bad kind, and the more you eat, the more your brain turns into a big blob of fat! /o/ -not really, but it's a good analogy-

3. Get off the computer. Restrict yourself to only the weekends, which i'm.....supposed to be doing....but I have freetime. Which also brings me to the freetime portion. If you finish all your homework for the day and you have some freetime, split it up proportionally. Suppose you have 2 hours of freetime, 45 minutes of Computer/Tv/Etc and 1 hour 15 minutes of doing other homework, things such as projects, or even chores. Get the petty stuff out of your schedule quick.

4. Don't procrastinate. PRECRASTINATE! Along with splitting your freetime up early, do work that's due later, on Friday. It seems a whole lot relaxing when you do all your hw on Friday, and get Saturday off (and sunday if you dont go to church). The longer you wait to do something, the worse it seems to be. You always end up staying up late trying to finish work given a month ago, and it's just completely tiring and executes Rule 1.

5. Ask your teachers for tutoring sessions. They love it when you ask them that, y'know? Then they know that they DO have students who need help, that the generation isn't lacking voice. It's impossible for a class of 200 or more to just not have questions on the hw or the stuff taught that day. Stay another 10 minutes and do your work in their room. I find it easier to concentrate when I do work at skewl than at home. Plus, if you have any questions, you have the perfect answer book: your teacher. Teachers want(?) to have students coming in, it shows that the generation isnt a big fail-bomb, and is actually filled with people who want to study, and that they are teaching properly. How you may wonder? Well, students who arent afraid of their teacher can ask them mostly anything right? Well there you go. Hope it makes sense, it's kind of beatin' roundur bush.

6. Well I'll come back to this, I'm getting kind of skitsy right now, can't sit down for too long. I'll tell you when it comes back to me, meanwhile, hope this helps. Please do check out Kahn Academy, and what math are you in? I might be able to help. :D If not, then....Kahn away! /o/

I know talking with the teacher also helps to let them know what is going on, sometimes they will give you a breather, but talking with the teacher about questions that you may not understand in your assignments, also when you do study study with a friend or someone from class if there is not anyone then go to the tutor center they will help you also understand somethings that may seem difficult. Keep your head up.

Hey, i've got some tips after experimenting :p
1. It really depends on the person but if being in the library with the 'study' atmosphere ,away from internet, phones turned off and possibly no one you know around you. it's a good environment to study in. If you prefer to stay at home, turn off the internet ,tv,lock the door, it's best to study in the same location around the same time each day.

2. Always makes sure that you have everything you need. By getting up half way through studying to get a pencil sharpener/calculator/ textbook etc, it breaks the concentration you worked so hard to maintain.

3. After school spend 10 to 15 minutes revising what you did in class for EACH subject.

4. At school, make sure in class you don't get distracted. You mention that you work hard in class etc but friends and people around you can be distracting and take you off task.

5. If you try one or more of the above it's good to keep it constant. Dedicate some time each day to studying . It may be hard at first but you then get used to it. If you ever plan to study with a friend make sure that you can stay on task and not end up gossiping etc.

GOODLUCK! I'm still studying everyday, ....i try to ;p

>>1 When studying, the main thing you want to do is memorize for life, not just to pass that test.
Usually for me, notes are no good, unless I write out things a whole bunch of times. Repetition usually helps you memorize things, even though this will take up a lot of time, depending on how fast you memorize things.
One thing that helps me, would to look up videos on YouTube. Not lectures, but sometimes there are some people who make up songs about certain subjects. As an example, the last video that my teacher showed was a rap about the unification of Germany. I have to say, it was easier to memorize that then constantly looking over your notes.

I also find that the teachers love it when you suck up to them or participate a lot. They usually treat you nicer and are more likely to give you a break once in a while.

my mom has a a problem with math and some people just arent math heads and have a hard time doing but all i have to say is find someone who has maybe graduated and think a lot like you. What subject do you do your best in is a good way to get a person that thinks like you do they excel in the subject that you excel in and did they have problems with the same subject but end up understanding it eventually if so ask them if they can help you

Don't do what I do: get enough sleep, don't doodle on your notes while you're supposed to be paying attention, get all your homework done once you get home, and ask for help if you don't understand something.

If you need help with something I'm always here for questions, unless it's languages, I suck at languages.

>>11 hahahah, weird, im just the opposite. :V

but the real point is to let your teachers kno that you're making an effort. The more they see you trying to pull your grades up the more they will feel like they understand you and will try to help you. Who knows, if your teacher is real nice and you have a 79.6 in Math, your teacher mite just bump u up to an 80. :D And it's no problem. Just make sure you have your work down before you do anything. You can't prosper if you dont work hard. At least in a realistic point, people like Paris Hilton are exceptions.

Oh, and if you have questions in class, like Anubis said, ask them. I assure you, there is at least 1 other person in the class with the same question you have. now...

GO DO WORK >:O

I had read the tips from this thread (Kaori's one was exceptionally helpful, Tsukiko's too, thanks :D) and I wanted to add one more advice to face the finals (as I am facing them too).

Keep your HEALTH up (we all know how to keep healthy so I won't explain how-to :P). This I learn from the best teacher, experience.
Oh flu, how I loathe thee! Just because of a flu (which I got from my best friend) I can't concentrate in my Math test! And now my Math score will be around 80s at most. (=A=")
