if this was an anime then all you'd have to do is tell her that you liked and everything would work out perfectly... but this isn't an anime so i can't help you
In reality, all you have to do is tell her that you like her and everything will work out how it's supposed to. You can't force someone to reciprocate, but you'll never know if they will unless you try.
Think of it this way. If you're worried about rejection, you're more worried about yourself than you are about how they feel on the matter. Best not to linger.
However. You describe her as "this girl at school" - do you actually know her personally? If you don't, there is an inherent problem with your plan. Why don't you try talking to her first, and go from there? Even if you already know her well, why don't you gauge her feelings on the matter if you're so worried?

I agree with Kanra, being acquaintances first will go a long way. That way you can find out if she's nice, douchy etc! More opportunites to ask her out will open up if you become acquaintances too.
OP, is it someone you know well? Cause if not, don't expect her to respond with a yes when she doesn't even know you well. Talk to her frequently, get to know each other, and be good friends. Strong friendship always comes before relationships.
