Shouldn't change a whole lot. You're still friends, right? It's not like he asked you to do anything about it, he just said it.

was this an off-handed comment, or more of a confession? I assume that it is the latter, otherwise you probably would not be making such a big deal about it, but the way you said things in the OP make it sound like it may have been a joke or no big deal, so i figured i'd ask.

Aside form that, i agree with >>2 in the sense that he's not really making any demands or moves to take the next step and go from friendship to a more romantic relationship, so the rest really falls to you. If you can't see him that way, no harm, no foul. just continue the friendship. But if you DO think you can see yourself dating him, you should probably go for it.

I'm friends with my ex-girlfriend -- we still hug and talk for ages. It was my fault. I had misjudged my feelings: I didn't love her. My apology was ashamed and indistinct, which I still regret, but she seems to understand. Signs of friendship.

These lessons I have learnt:

Remember! Though they are similar, understanding is not love. I understand some friends better than I understand my girlfriend, but I'm certain she is the one I love. I still undestand my ex in a rare way, but I know now I do not love her.

Remember! Evil comes of lying or of withholding truth. If you do not know, say so, or say nothing. She would have deserved to know the truth once I had realised it. I should have been more clear in what I meant and not dance around the matter so.

That is my advice.
