Unfit for a 13 year old? (5)

1 Name: Sun : 2012-04-26 21:42 ID:x7KM8XqE [Del]

I'm 13 years old (14 next month), and I have a heart rate of 106 bpm. I am 5 foot 5 and weigh around 105-110 pounds (I know very under weight T_T). I don't play any sports, but I don't struggle that much during PE class or when we're running the mile (I usually get an 8-9 minute mile. Some people have been telling me my heart rate is too high, and others have been telling me it's normal. What do you guys think?

And also, I want to run for an hour everyday, but I'm scared I'm going to lose weight. Should I still try running?

Ask a doctor.

I don't know much about heart rates. When it comes to running, though, don't worry about weight. Just eat plenty of food (preferably meats and pastas). That will help you gain weight, but if you've got the right proportions, the running will keep you from getting over weight, and it will help turn what's left over into muscle. Running is always good to exercise your heart, but if you're not used to it, don't overdo it the first time. Slowly work yourself up to the speed/distance you're comfortable with. You might also want to exercise other things, as well, just to keep your body balanced. It's really awkward having strong legs and weak arms (which I had when I was younger), so, yeah.

Raise your diet for your weight and have a very rounded exercise regiment. Those are my only suggestions ;o

Let me just say

I have your exact physique

Except I'm 5 years older than you

(...And 5-10 pounds under you.)

You're fine, don't worry about it. It's not unfit to have a high bpm at that age, especially for your size and weight. You probably have a higher metabolism than most, and that may or may not go down as you get older.

If you're concerned about your weight, consider starting to work out. Muscle weighs more than fat, and it's not like you need the latter to gain the former. You're at an age where nobody can really say what's considered "normal," because that's the age when everyone's in a state of flux. You'll see people ranging from 4'10" to 6 feet tall, in your class, pretty soon. It's fucked up.
