Seriously people? (15)

Alright, so I've been reading some stuff on the Personal board, and some of the stuff I'm seeing is ridiculous. People come and post on this board to get help and advice. Not to hear people tell them to "get over it." Otherwise, they'd go somewhere else. Some of the people here are completely inconsiderate, and seriously need to get a heart or something. Now, those people who are posting just to get pity, I've got no problem with telling them to STFU. But if someone's here looking for advice or help or something, then wtf is your problem telling them to get over it? I mean, seriously people? What the hell is your problem?

Oh look, a perfect thing for me to say "get over it" to.

>>1 Has it occurred to you that "get over it" is actual advice? Dwelling over something that is out of your power to change is unhealthy, and the only way to get on with your life and be happy is to get over it. Not every little piece of advice has to be some in-depth superplot to win the heart of a lover. Not everything can be solved by creating an elaborate wall of text that claims to guarantee success.

My question is, what the Hell is /your/ problem? Who are you to discredit the advice of another? Their idea may actually be better for the person they offer it to than anything you can come up with. Instead of complaining about something you really can't do anything about, get the Hell over it, and post your own advice in the hopes that the person takes it. It's not your obligation to determine if the advice of another member is faulty unless you can back it up with things like "No, doing that shit will get you arrested. You should try doing this more legal, and less creepy option instead".

>>3 I see your point. But what the post was directed toward was those people who are just being jack asses and don't really give a shit. And even if they aren't just being jack asses, some of those people might react badly to a "get over it." And if someone meant that as serious advice, not just being an ass, then they could easily soften it up a bit.

I agree with you Kuroneko. You have a point.

>>5 "Get over it" is actual advice, and quite frankly, that's the best advice to give to some of these situations. If people don't want to hear other's opinions, they shouldn't ask for them on the internet.

>>7 Kuroneko has already recognized it as actual advice, the suggestion was to make it sound prettier for the people who can't handle how blunt it is.

However, like Crisis said, if someone can't handle things a little as straight-to-the-point advice that /they/ asked for, they need to get off the Internet.

Sucks to say but people need tough love. It's the only way to help some times.

bumping off board more.

It depends on the problem, IMO. Some really can't just be 'got over.'

>>12 And that was another thing the post was about, Rhia. I've dealt with some stuff that people can't just "get over."

And that is why more than one person is allowed to offer advice. If one comment doesn't work, or appeal to the OP that asked for help, another one might. It's important though, to cover all the bases by including ideas that nobody else has posted.

"It is better to have been given a little bad or irrelevant advice than to never have been given advice at all."

dunno why, but that's what i instantly thought of after reading this comment.
